Thanks to everyone with all the help on M43, Bonecutter, and CAK specs throughout my search. All those models are more impressive than I originally thought. They really are monsters and very capable. I had narrowed my needs down to three models over the last year that fell near the three pound range and they were 20" AK, 22" Ganga Ram Special and Bonecutter. The edge profile on these blades all wreak chopper so I could not rule any of them out for that reason. Bonecutter was simply not available in the size range I wanted so it was out. Down to two GRS and AK. Since this will be my go to chopper for around the house I chose the 20" AK for its beauty! Both are beautiful works of art but that extra fuller just wont let me eliminate the AK. I hope it is as front heavy as the Ganga Ram. GRS has two inches on the AK so that alone may put more power where it needs to be and minus the fuller would do the same. This is an almost impossible decision but AK is in stock now and im tired of waiting:rolleyes: I chose wood handle because most of the best deals on DOTD seem to be leaning to the horn side. This way I got a balance of both. This should be an interesting order. My lil KLVFKK Christmas knife will be in the same package as my 20" Ang Khola! Now if I can find me a thirty inch diameter Christmas tree:D Pics to come!
BTW: if you have pics of 20" AK I dont object to them being dangled in my face here while I wait for mine:thumbup:

oops ! im in the Cantina? oh well!

Well close but no cigar, mine is a mere 18". I don't think front heavy is gonna be the slightest issue for you on a 20". It's an absolute beast. You being more manly than I will be fine, I don't think I could go very long swinging a 20.

Mine is a Tirtha

I figured you'd go for a chiruwa version. I've become sold on the hidden tang much more than at first but I still love a full tang too.
Like I don't love and want them all. I'm a khuk hog!

That FF still amazes me! Hard to believe its 20.5" and an awesome display of fullers. The CAK is one ill eventually get once She lets me out of the doghouse again.....MMMMMM that UF is growing on me too! I guess you can tell im fond of them fullers! That is a nice AK you got there! Thanks for the eye candy Bawanna. Its gonna be a long weekend!

From a thread a few years ago, when somebody asked the question:
"How to buy when you can't decide?"
and gave the answer:
"The Goldilocks Method"

Papa Khukuri (below) is two-and-a-half pounds.

...
My first three, which I got last month:

20" AK (40 oz)
16" BC (33 oz)
12" GRS/BC (16 oz)

If I follow the goldilocks method ill be in the doghouse till next Christmas and all my blades will rust and my handles will split! Cant have that!
Man that is a nice set. 12" GR/BC Wow! Interesting! Them Bonecutters dont have much taper do they? Beefy to the tip! Decisions decisions. Good thing about these knives is that there are no wrong decisions:D

Yup the bonecutters are pretty blunt. I don't have one YET but I will one day. The one I held took my breath away.

Well smoke and prayer please. I'm off to start my Christmas shopping, I know a little early but gotta stay ahead right. I hate stores, I hate shopping, I hate traffic, I hate crowds. Not pretty.

Check list. 1911 on hip, check, 2 spare mags off side, check, Mini AK Bowie off side, check, Kahr PM45 on Ankle, check. I better throw the Ultimate Fighter in the van, could get ugly out there.

I tried to shop online but the clocks running down. Off I go.

Bawana What is the blade on the bottom?

That's a Philipino Barong, a friend down in AZ sent me just the blade and tang but with the wooden sheath. I whittled out the handle and installed.

Some of them have quite ornate handles on them, I just tried to copy some of the ones I saw pictures of. It's light and had a nice feel.

It certainly isn't a fine HI chopper but I like it.

1911 and a .45:eek: Anywhere to put your 25" Siru? Maybe hide it behind some of that diamond plate! Smoke up my friend! Bout the only thing that will roll over you is a German Maus!

nice foxy folly, if you dont mind me asking, how much do they run? are they more expensive than a similar sized CAK?

Nice barong, Bawanna. I've had a few-the Moro ones are definately swords as opposed to tools. Mine were just the tiniest bit convexed and very sharp even as old as they were. Did you etch it? Quite often they're laminated.

Mine is definitely convex if we're talking about the same thing. Its not flat from edge to back, like one big fuller, my terminology probably sucks but you get the idea.
I didn't etch it, remember I'm a rookie, so while I'll appear foolish and stoopid, I wouldn't know how.

Should I? What do I gain other than knowing it's laminated or not?

Very nice knives. The chunky 18+ inch khukuris are amazing, they're more like axes than knives with the damage they can cause. Quite amazing.

A 20" AK is a beast, that's for sure. Please post pictures after you get it. Congrats on making the decision. That can be really hard!

I think you've seen my recently acquired 20" AK already. Apparently they ranged from 3-4 pounds. Mine is just under 3 pounds.
I have been practicing with it since I got it. My hands and wrists are starting to get use to the weight and balance. I'm 5-10 and 190pounds in good shape.

In all humility, it is too heavy to be effective in the hands of a guy my size.
Don't get me wrong, I can work with it well for few minutes but for any longer tasks, unless having two hands on it, it gets dangerous real quick.

But it's a beauty of a beast.

I whish I had a device to measure the speed of the blows. The energy you pack in the blade is proportional to the weight but square its speed.

If you swing a kuk half the weight of the 20" AK at twice the speed, you are packing twice the energy of the 20" AK. Making the lighter blade more powerful.

Yep! Agreed! IIRC Force=Mass*Acceleration. Im skinnier than you and have a bad back but that never stopped me from getting things done:D My chainsaw weighs five times that Khukhuri. Aunti may have sent it off fri. If so i should have it tomorrow. Aint we spoiled:thumbup: Ill do a photo session then put her to work immediately. My firewood pile is going down faster than my savings account. Im justifying this expense by my heating and cooling bill this year in my new house. So far my bill for the year has been less than $400 for the entire year from 26-110 degrees. Add the Khuk and im still ten times below most people. All that said im still in the doghouse:grumpy: Maybe she will let me out soon!

Yeah Wildmanh! Those are the decisions i dont mind being faced with! Life is good!

thats why those folly's are deep cutters, the ones ive seen are very thin very fast , i think they cut very deep, for meaty choppery

I think that for the average person these very large, heavy khukuris make better collector knives than users. In addition to the weight, they often have a proportionately large handle girth, which can make it hard to get a good grip unless you have oversized hands.

Also, a user knife will not only be used for axe-like tasks. No matter how strong a person might be, there's not much benefit swinging a 3 lb chunk of steel to take off 2" branches or other camp chores that a much lighter blade can handle with ease. It can be downright dangerous swinging a very heavy khukuri at anything that can't stop the swing.

I have my share of heavy knives, but as a practical matter I prefer something around 24 oz for most purposes.
