Ordered My 1st Busse...

So, I finally ordered my very first Busse on the 6th, a TGLB with black G10 handles and a black blade...NEVER in my life have I flip-flopped as many times as I did while simply trying to decide what color I wanted for the blade on my TGLB. It was ridiculous!...I've had easier times picking out the color for my latest motorcycle or car...it made me feel like an idiot. I was all set to get the Tanker Gray until a few guys posted pics of their black TGLB's...thanks for making it difficult by the way. :D

Anyway, with that done I'd like to thank everyone here that was so helpful answering any questions that I had! One thing I forgot to ask is approximately what angle is the edge on TGLB from the factory?...and is it a convex edge?

So far I've had very little success sharpening/or keeping sharp convex edges even with the four sided wooden baseball bat-like gimmick that I bought from an online knife store that has leather glued to it and stropping compound applied to 3 sides. It looks to me that the leather isn't flat on the wood (like it dips in the middle) and that may be the issue I'm having, or even more likely, it's simply user error. I often have better luck with an old leather belt that I hold down with one foot (with some slack) and just strop the blade on the back of it.

If the blade is not convex then I'll just use my Sharpmaker, I have every rod made for it and have never has a problem getting anything sharp with it. I also have an A.G. Russell ceramic rod sharpener that uses round rods and I could use one of those to run the blade across like you would with a Honing Steel.

Thanks guys, you've been extremely helpful.

Well, choices are a good thing but they ALL looked great to me so it was difficult to decide.

Anyone know what the edge geometry is on a TGLB from the factory? Anyone try to sharpen theirs on a Sharpmaker (40 degrees combined) or do you simply strop them? Thanks.

Gotta say that I can't recall the last time I was this excited about ordering a new knife...

My TGLB came with a heavy convex grind on it.

Congrats! TGLB was my first Busse, and now I have 5 Busse and kin. Better get to picking out your next one!

Mine have all come with regular v grinds, pretty obtuse ones, I didn't measure them. I generally just sharpen by hand on a dmt duo fold diamond sharpener, never really had much luck with a sharpmaker on a large blade. As for stropping I put a piece of stirup leather on my coffetable smear some mother maguires metal polish on it and strop a few times to finish.

Congrats on your first Busse!!! You're going to love it! It will probably be a V bevel edge. That said, convex edges are easy to maintain even if you don't like them - just shapren them like a V edge anyway! You'll still get it sharp :)

Welcome to the addiction sir. That's a great first choice.

I reprofile all my blades to a convex... i almost never have to resharpen after that. 5 minutes on a strop will restore most of them to shaving unless they've taken a real beating

The TGLB is a great first Busse. It is the knife that started my interest in Busse. Now the real trick will be to stay off of the exchange until you get it. :)

Congrats on the TGLB its an awesome knife! My first busse was a much smaller CG AD which I still carry in my Saddle bags on my Harley. I would offer you some koolaid but it looks like you have already had some!!! :D

Thank you, I ride too, not sure what I spend more money on, chrome billet motorcycle parts or knives.

Do most of you guys strop your TGLB? Anyone use a Sharpmaker? I'm not much good with anything else unfortunately...

Congrats on your first Busse  You will LOVE the TGLB. Everyone here has had the "Oh my GOSH I can't decide!!!!" moment. It's just a good thing you figured it out

If anyone ever has a hard time deciding configurations, I have seen every possible choice and I am happy to choose for you. :D

I thought several combos looked stellar so it wasn't easy choosing but in a good way.

Congrats on your first Busse! The TGLB is a great knife. There are so many choices and possible configurations of handle and blade finish that I swear you guys have to understand what it's like for us girls to walk into a shoe store and not know what we want. It's quite overwhelming.
