So, I finally ordered my very first Busse on the 6th, a TGLB with black G10 handles and a black blade...NEVER in my life have I flip-flopped as many times as I did while simply trying to decide what color I wanted for the blade on my TGLB. It was ridiculous!...I've had easier times picking out the color for my latest motorcycle or car...it made me feel like an idiot. I was all set to get the Tanker Gray until a few guys posted pics of their black TGLB's...thanks for making it difficult by the way.
Anyway, with that done I'd like to thank everyone here that was so helpful answering any questions that I had! One thing I forgot to ask is approximately what angle is the edge on TGLB from the factory?...and is it a convex edge?
So far I've had very little success sharpening/or keeping sharp convex edges even with the four sided wooden baseball bat-like gimmick that I bought from an online knife store that has leather glued to it and stropping compound applied to 3 sides. It looks to me that the leather isn't flat on the wood (like it dips in the middle) and that may be the issue I'm having, or even more likely, it's simply user error. I often have better luck with an old leather belt that I hold down with one foot (with some slack) and just strop the blade on the back of it.
If the blade is not convex then I'll just use my Sharpmaker, I have every rod made for it and have never has a problem getting anything sharp with it. I also have an A.G. Russell ceramic rod sharpener that uses round rods and I could use one of those to run the blade across like you would with a Honing Steel.
Thanks guys, you've been extremely helpful.
