Ordered My 1st Busse...

Thank you!

Any advice when it comes to how best to sharpen the TGLB? What the edge geometry is from the factory? Would it be best NOT to use a Sharpmaker on this knife? I could use a round ceramic rod like you would with a Honing Steel...

I recommend sending it back to us when it needs sharpened back up, we do it free of charge.

That's very nice of you guys! I try to never allow my knives to become dull in the first place, if the TGLB come with a convex edge I just need to get better at stropping so that I can maintain the edge on my own. IF it does ship convex, is there a certain manufacturers/brand strop that Busse recommends?

I've seen some videos of the new "Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener Ken Onion Edition Model:WSKTS-KO" that works much like a miniature belt sander that should work great at maintaining convex edge IF it'll handle the thickness of the GTLB.

Like I said before, I have a 4 sided bat-type strop with leather on all 4 sides and compound on 3 BUT there's a valley down the middle of the leather strop that prevents the edge from running flush down the leather..."maybe' if my strop was flat I'd have better success.

I do understand the theory behind stropping and a convex edge but thus far I only have success with a leather belt held down with one foot with a bit of slack it as I run the blade up and down it. I take it that nobody here uses something like the Sharpmaker, even at 40 degrees combined. Nobody runs a "V" grind edge on the Busse knives?

I'll just run down to the book store and pickup "Stropping a Convex Edge for Dummies." :D

I use a strop on mine, after light strokes on a ceramic stone. If you keep up the light sharpening regularly, you won't need to do anything too drastic
