Ordered My First Busse - What Have I Got Myself Into?

So, I am on this other forum last week - primarily AK related - and saw a thread on Busse knives. Never heard of them, but I have not been much of a knife guy. I was in the market for a high quality piece of steel so I talked myself into doing a bit of research and picking ONE up for my bug out bag. Jerry then posts on the forum and I had to read the post twice..... strange named knives, weird business model, drinking, etc. Hmmmmmm..... I thought. The plot thickens. So I started by looking at the Busse web site, eBay and ended up here. Thanks God for that. I quickly decided that the combination of knife choices, strange culture and high quality tracked with my weapon buying habit or addiction.

Went ahead and jumped in. Just now ordered a Boss Jack LE from the Busse site while drinking an Abita Jockmo. I am confident that when Monday roles around I will have decided on my second Busse - EDC variety like a Hog Muk or Sus Scrofa (such as I am a pig slayer) and purchased from one of you characters on the exchange here. Please tempt me.

So, I am not sure what I am into and what therapy you recommend besides drinking and purchasing more steel. Two questions and then I will leave the novel for later -

1. How does one pronounce Busse - I am hesitant to sound ignorant.
2. I can't figure out the other Busse brands/line - Scrapyard, etc. Something else to buy. Where can I find a primer on this?

Thanks for having me....... I am sure I am in for the long haul.

Hey bro, welcome! Busse is pronounced "BUS - E", and the other two divisions are Swamp Rat, and Scrap Yard. Whereas Busse Combat uses INFI primarily, Swamp Rat uses SR-101 primarily, and Scrap Yard uses SR-77 and recently more SR-101. Welcome to the madness. Go ahead and part with an AK or two now so you can fund your INFliction. By the way, you found Busse Combat at the right time as the BJ LE is one of the finest survival/utility knives ever designed IMHO.

Some people pronounce it BUS-E, like a school bus, other say BEUW-SE, it really doesnt matter imo... The sister companies of Busse are Scrap yard Knife Works, and Swamp rat Knife Works. The HOG muk is a great knife, but pricey. Just buy a Rat man Du on the Swamp rat Website, You'll like that! Oh welcome to the busse forum btw, be prepared to spend some $$$$$$...

I just bought my first Busse off the website too! I already have a a HOG Muk that I bought second hand but the Boss Jack LE will be my first straight from Jerry's shop. Can't wait! And the worst part is that while waiting I'm trying to convince myself I don't want to by a combat grade BJ in the meantime, you know, as back up.

I had wanted a Busse for years then about a year ago I got one!!! now I have 4 and and 6 Busse-kin. Get out while you can!!!

Welcome to the madness and congrats on the BOSS Jack!!!! It's one of the greats and the only Busse I own duplicates of.

Now... Since you know you will be buying more - go and order a Swamp Rat RatManDu immediately. Don't ask questions. I guarantee you will thank me :D

Here is the link to the RMD:

You may want to preorder a Rucki too...

Now when you are done with that, make your way over to the Scrap Yard and pick up a 511 while you still can here:

ENJOY!!!!

Go burn your credit cards.... or simply embrace the idea of you as a homeless man with nothing but a cardboard box full of busses. If you accept that then take trailwolf's advice and you will have reached the point of no return because the RMD is like heaven in your hand. Good luck and welcome!

I just got started with a scrapivore and a war dog now I have a boss jack with 3 basic 6s and a rucki on the way, it can be addictive!!!

I've been thinking about the RMD but it seems to cover a lot of the same ground from the boss jack.

What's the deal with the RMD?

Lots of great Busse knives out right now. Boss jack while it is from factory can't be beat. The hog muk is a great all purpose blade. Do research before you buy. Knives come up often but the wrong move can cost you an extra hundred. This really is a great time for Busse kin as well. Scrapyard has the 511 out and swamp had the rmd. The rmd is my personal favorite of all the family blades. Holds an amazing edge and is very comfortable.

And I thought you all were here to welcome me and give me advice......... now I find that your afflictions have been transmitted through the keyboard. I have already been on the Scrap Rat and Swamp Yard ( something like that ) web sites and will pull the trigger on the RMD today! Maybe by the end of the weekend I will even know 30% of the various models by their initials - tough work ahead.

One of the best all around knives ever made. :D You will not be sorry you own it. In a five knife lineup it is perfect... #1 (edc), RMD, Boss Jack, #4 (large camp), #5 (chopper)
