The thing is Im sure if you look at the site deeper and or the M/T warranty you will find that specs can change without notice. The specs for that knife were probably put there when the DOC was first released or the last run. They dont know of a steel change until they get them either. I think 154cm is a great steel. And If given the choice I would always take 154cm. Honestly the price difference between the two steels as a raw material is negligible. You arent paying for materials in most cases but for the process to get them from that state to a finished product in with the fit and finish M/T is known for.
honestly in this case the difference in cost is not significant. for instance a very well knife supply company sells the two steels in 18" sections and when comparing the two steels in that size the s30v bar stock is only $5 more. That is for the same thickness, width and length. Your talking in the case of the DOC maybe a $2.50 difference in price. n
