Please give me a shopping list for belts. I currently have none and need to get started. Please give me some brands, grits and how many of each to get me started....thanks to all in advance :)

I like Norton blaze belts. I would start with some 36,60,120 grit and something for finishing, depending on what steel you are working with.

You should buy some crappy belts so you will recognize just how good the 3m 967 cubitrons and 984 cubitron 2's are, when you try them. For material removal I will take either of these over anything else, hands down.
Finishing belts are a little more specific toward the intended use, in my opinion. I use several different kinds, probably use trizacts the most for pre-finishing work on blades (I do final finishing by hand).

Good stuff there! But the 3M 984s' are so much better, I stopped using the 967s'

Cubutron 984 II are the best ive used by far and dont leave crap all over my platen and and wheels that blaze does.

Tru grit abrasives are solid guys with the largest selection of belts.

I would go cubitron 2 in 60 grit and 120 grit, then trizact in 220 400 600 then scotchbrite belt.

Then a handful of 220 grit alumox belts for basic shaping and your in business.

One more for the 984 f's I've tried them all over the last 17 years and they are the best I've used by far.
