Ordering an Adamas, Black or Tan?

I am about to order a BM 275 Adamas. I have read that the cerakote wears fairly quickly on the tan scale model, which is steering me away from it, even though I think it looks the best. I have seen the black scale first productions, and they seem to have a "wood grain" polished g10. Is this the same on the newer black g10 models? It doesn't seem so, according to the pictures on their website. If anyone has any comparison pictures of the Adamas first production, standard black, and standard tan, I'd like to see them. Any input on the wearing of the Tan cerakote would be appreciated too.

The blade is black on both models, how can it wear faster on one than the other? It's pretty much the exac t same knife, the only difference is color. The First Production, simply says that on the blade, everything else is the same. Weight, steel, ergos, lock, G10, stand offs, clip, warranty, box, sheath, etc.

If the only difference is color, tan always looks pretty nice.

I have a lot of black folders, but they all get boring after a while.

As stated above... I am not referring to the blade, I am referring to the handle. The tan Adamas has black g10 grip scales that have been cerakoted tan, and have read that the tan cerakote wears off with very little use. Also, the black handle on the standard (current) Adamas appears to be a different finish than the first production runs.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm really just trying to help. Nowhere in Benchmade's documentation for the Adamas do I see the word "Ceracote" mentioned blade or handle.
What I do see is black G-10 and Tan G-10 mentioned. So if you are mistaken about the Cerakote then it becomes a case of what color do you like better black or tan. You may also wish to consider that the black is a limited edition of 1000.

It can be seen on other websites, as well as other threads in the forum, that the tan handle Adamas is black g10 with a tan cerakote. Was just wondering how durable the coating is, as I have also read it rubs off with use. You are correct though, it doesn't say in benchmade's documentation that this is the case, and it could be false, I was just regarding information from experts here on BF as true. If someone can disprove the use of cerakote in the handles, I would be interested in learning that as well.

Also, is the black g10 on the current production black handle models the same as the first production run? The same polished "wood grain" g10?

Keens if no one is able to conclusively answer your questions, you might consider contacting Benchmade directly. (Phone call would get you the fastest response; e-mail might offer the most comprehensive.)

Another good place to ask about Cerakote would be the General Knife Maker's Discussion Forum - Shop Talk here at BF. There are many good things we learn from just researching, reading and discussions with other members as I'm sure you know. One of the first things that I learned was not all "experts" are experts.

Ahhh that would explain the black marks on the tan handles of the Adamas I bought used. The coating seems fairly durable to me, though; it's only come off in places where the handle was gouged from drops or something.

I have the black 275 and can say positively that the black G-10 is knida' wood-grain. It's more the layers of the G-10 showing from where the scales have been thinned out. The scales are not truly square if that helps, it does have some swells and tapers which is why it produces that wood-grain type of look. Take a closer look at some of the picks and you'll see that in fact there's a slight palm swell, minute really.. Either one you choose you will be happy, I love mine!

Yea the tan version is a beaut, my buddy has it that's why I opted for the black version. Another thing on the tan scales, he took his apart and the tan scales are indeed black on the backside proof that they are painted or cerakoted...

Its not tan g-10 its black g-10 with tan paint witch is cheap. Benchmade needs to step it up if spyderco can make a knife with tan g-10 why can't benchmade?

The tan is coating is fairly strong. My friend lets my fondle his adamas a lot and no signs of wear on the handle. It should last a while if used as it should be! ;D
