Ordering an Adamas, Black or Tan?

Why the heck is Benchmade painting G10? They make it in pretty much every color you could want. I would go with tan if it wasn't painted and yes, I consider cerakote to be paint. Every Benchmade G10 scale that has sculpted contours has the wood grain appearance. G10 is a layered material so when you sculpt contours in it, it exposes the layers and in Benchmade's case, it has a wood grain effect. The only difference in their first production knives is that the blade says 'first production'. Personally, I could give a rip about first production and I don't think it increases the value of the knife at all. Go with black if you're worried about the tan wearing off.

Right on the money!

Mine is tan, picked up new last week. It's a sweet combo, looks even better in hand! I plan to carry and use the snot out of it. If the coating wears off, will only add to character IMO.

If the only difference is color, tan always looks pretty nice.

I have a lot of black folders, but they all get boring after a while.

This. Even on satin/stonewash blades, I prefer seeing something other than black G10 once in a while.

That cost more to cerakote the g-10 than just use tan. I know a guy who cerakotes g-10 gun grips, but it is to accent the original color, not to cover it.....just saying this kinda smells....

Just confirmed through benchmade customer service that the Tan, is in fact, cerakote. I asked why they chose to use this method, as opposed to using tan g10 and got something like, "Uhhhh". No direct answer to the question. My second question to him was if they were currently producing black handle adamas folders, he replied "No, that was only the first production." I pointed out the Adamas page on the website, where it clearly says "In stock" on the black Adamas folders, and he realized he was wrong. I also asked if the black g10 scales on the first/limited production run of Adamas folders had the same wood grain effect. I was put on hold for 10 minutes, then he simply said "No, they are different."

Weird customer service experience... very short answers with no explanations.

Yeah, sometimes they can be a little short, but I've never really had a bad experience with them since they're prompt and accurate with their answers/services.
