So, while perusing some online knife dealers from the EU, I ran into at least a few knives I would like to have, but that are not available in the U.S.
So, for those of you that may have ordered knives from EU dealers, what is the process and fees (besides the payment to the vendor for the item)?
Thanks in advance :)

What knives are you looking for? I haven't bought directly from European sellers BUT I've gone to Amazon and bought certain knives only to realize they were actually being shipped from Spain. I had to do nothing. If they do it right they take care of customs paperwork etc. Actually... I did order knives from Europe directly. Two actually. hellize hellize old friend would you care to provide some insight?

Shipping is about the only thing higher you will pay over and above the ticket price. Any taxes etc that may be due (I don't think you get hit in the US) will be collect at your end. The vast majority of cutlery I buy comes to me from overseas, nothing difficult or problematic about it. Just choose a vendor with a good reputation as dealing with any issues that arise is that much more difficult.

This is an understatement. I bought some opinels ($19 worth) through Amazon but from a seller in France. He shipped the wrong item, and Amazon suggested I send them back to get the right ones. It turned out I would be responsible for the shipping costs: USPS- $13 shipping (for a $19 order), Fedex- $90 (say what???). Needless to say I kept the knives.

It generally costs me around $55US for each of the Busse knives I buy to be delivered here by USPS Express (from Busse direct as that is the method they use for overseas), I can get a few in a box to spread the costs across the knives. Most fixed knives I can have delivered USPS Registered (take a couple of weeks at least) for @$30US. You just need to understand what you are buying and if the saving is worth the extra shipping.

Keep in mind that if you order from a EU Dealer from outside the EU you pay less than what it advertised on the website, since you don't have to pay sales tax (21%), most shops calculate it automatically when you enter your shipping info, but some might not. Just something to keep in mind.

Unwisefool,
I purchased a Sgian Dubh from Rab Gordon up in Dramnadroichit with a bog oak grip, silver fittings and Damasteel blade of Rab's manufacture. Super pleasant guy to deal with. We chatted over FaceTime during the design process and about six months later the knife was delivered to my door. It took a bit longer than originally estimated because he made a mod to the sheath so that I could carry it on hikes from my belt instead of the traditional way of tucking it into hose. You should check out his website at: https://www.rainnea.com/sgian-dubhs.htm. I don't own any stock in his business but I do like to help out the good guys with a favorable recommendation.

I have a knife coming from Slovakia hopefully soon. My first order of a knife from overseas. Little more on shipping costs and paid in Euros.
Let you know how it goes.

I've ordered from Brisa in Finland and had the package on my doorstep 4 days later. I was blown away by the ease of the whole transaction. The package shipped DHL and the cost was reasonable.

Orders from Brisa arrived in 3 to 4 days by DHL and cost $10. Orders from Lamina arrived in 5 to 7 days by UPS or GLS. An order from Casstrom took about 10 days and arrived by Swedish Post. Two different orders from Varusteleka, one took 3 weeks and the other arrived in less than 10 days via Finnish Posti and the USPS, flat rate of $10. Two separate orders of blanks from Poland took around 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, the price was ridiculously inexpensive at around $5 each. Purchased a knife from a Croatian maker, it took two weeks to arrive. A knife I bought from Russia took a little over 1 1/2 months to arrive. I am waiting on a response from another Russian knife maker, he has my knife finished and just need to work out payment details. He said it should take two weeks to one month for it arrive to the US.

I didn't have to pay any custom fees on any of them. All the above transactions required a signature to receive the packages.
