The OKCA show is what really got me hooked on custom knives. It is coming up real soon.

Any forum members planning to go?

Here is a little info for anyone who doesn't already know about it. I gathered this info from the OKCA website.

The show is in Eugene Oregon at the Convention Center
5000 people attended the 2009 April Show
Dates -- April 17 - 18, 2010
Times -- Saturday 8 am - 5 pm - Sunday 9 am - 3 pm
Admission - General admission $6.00/day
Members free
Members only day on Friday April 16
Free demonstrations - Saturday
430 Tables - 8' X 30"

On display and for sale:
Knives, Swords, Razors, Cutlery, Blades, Tools, Bayonets, Scissors, Hat pins, Pocket knives, Kitchen knives, Old knives, New knives, Custom knives, Straight knives, Stone knives, Knife Making supplies and anything that goes "cut."

DIRECTIONS TO SHOW
From 1-5 take exit 194B. Stay on I-105 West until the end (it crosses over the Willamette River and curves to the left). I-105 ends at 7th and Jefferson. Proceed straight ahead on Jefferson to 13th (stay in the right hand lanes to avoid being forced to turn on 11th). Drive through the intersection at 13th & Jefferson, and you have now entered the Lane County Events Center and Fair Grounds property:
796 W 13th Ave., Eugene, OR 97402

I'll be there. I got talked into doing a forging demonstration on Sunday. I've been asked to do a spearhead with a socket. H08 is my table.

Oh NO!! got to sit next to Ray AGAIN???:D:D Heck it's been a fun couple of years with papa smurf around. My table is I09. See ya all there...

I'll be there to gawk and drool at what I can only dream about at this point... This will be my first year attending, with the cancellation of Blade West I'm pretty stoked I can attend this one!

I'll be there again too. table R12 again.

This show has always been a must see if you are not only a maker but a knife enthusiast. On Friday its open to members only and is the best day to get supplies and talk to buddies. Saturday is busy and Sunday is laid back and a perfect day to study the collections that are on display surrounding the room, oh, and watch Raymond hammer out a spear point. His and all the demos are great.

Please stop by and take a look at my latest projects, "The Newell .45 Pistol and Bowie Set" and the "Justice Bowie". Also some slippies and a couple Loveless wantabees.

I plan to go and look. I'm a beginner.
Would it be considered rude to bring examples of my work, for opinions, advice?
Thanks Mark

Mark, If it looks like the table holder isn't busy most of us don't mind giving opinions or advise. If you see someone reaching for there wallet that's a good sign to hold off for a few minutes. :D Bruce, I won't have any $15.00 knives at this years show........ You got a picture of your "Justice Bowie"?

Thanks Raymond, rather than risk a blunder, I think i'll limit my visit to observing and handling other makers work, with the caution you have stated.

Tables D7, D8 and D9 for the real deal in stabilized woods both domestic and exotics. Amboyna, thuya, mesquite burl, rosewood burl, ebonies, blackwood, figured koa. Long boards and oversize sets, etc., etc.

Don't miss the OKCA show..it's just plain FUN!!

Sid from Little Giant Power Hammers will be there with his collection of Nichols knives.

I'm not sure where he is setting up though, but it's beginning to sound like a good show.

Sounds like Larry is cleaning out his warehouse to me. He has some of the coolest exotic woods I have ever seen.

That would take about three semi truck loads, but I am sizing down a lot.

Cutting and acrylic infusing (stabilizing) stacks of spalted maple burl, box elder burl and buckeye burl this week...gotta slum sometimes :D

Got a big slab of bog oak out to cut and stabilize..keep forgetting I have it.

I know you got someone to pack your kiln bricks, but whos going to swing the hammer :D :D Sad to get old :p

Ooh! I hope you have some of this at the OKCA show - I've been wanting to do a sgian dubh and haven't had much luck finding decent bog oak...

Larry, I think I'll let the hammer swing me this time. I hope your giving senior discounts on your products this year. If not I'll have someone from AARP talk to you. :D

ha!! AARP has talked to me for 13 years. After your helper hauls in your fire brick, please send him over to haul in my wood boxes. :D

Larry, Everything is taken care of for at least me. I just need to remember to bring my hammers. Maybe AARP will give you a hand loading and unloading. Never hurts to ask. :D
