Oregon Knife Show

The Oregon Knife Show is a rich experience for Martin and I. We get to make new friends and don't have enough time to visit with the old ones. This show more than any other is about community; that's all about knives. Many people work together to make this show happen, for the thirty-first time. I believe there is a gun show in the next building and a gem in mineral show in the smallest of the three exhibition halls. Saturday there is the Piccadilly craft fair on the opposite side of the fair grounds. Dry camping is allowed in the parking lot. These folks do alot to remove barriers to participation and keep the costs down. Martin will be demonstrating flintknapping Saturday; I think this is his twelfth year demoing. The displays around the perimeter of the room are very good, a show in themselves. See you there...Take Care...Ed

Ed, if we don't manage to speak before you leave, good luck to you & Martin at the show.

Yes, over the past six years I've watched the show change... but I've found the OKCA show to be a community event that is bigger than the actual personalities involved - history is there, information is there, it's a nice, big venue and it's a wee different every time. And it's not a bad little city to have it in, either... While some makers leave, others come and some of the ones that stay sort of act as a cohesive element that serves to draw some of us back every year... Due to economics, I, too, may have to forgoe a show or so in the future, but it won't be neccessarily 'cause of the fact that a show changes... unless it really devolves into a crass commercial fleamarket! LOL!! :D
