OK, I don't want this to get moved to general, as I think your the guys that I want to talk to here. I am thinking about moving to Oregon, my brother already went up there, and is working for his dad (different than mine). They keep calling me and offering me a job, and my bro says that I would be happy there. I grew up in the North East, and hiked and camped almost every weekend, sometimes all week, and now living in TX (no offence to you super sensitive Texans, but its just not the same as big old pines and mountains) I don't get that feeling like when I was a kid, that woods smell...I really miss it. My brother says that I'll be in heaven up in Oregon, says I can hike and camp all over. Do any of you guys live there, do any of you go camping/ hiking there? What do you think? Since I'll be moving my family just so that I can camp in the woods again, it has to be better than avarage camping...:D Gene

I used to live in Portland. Oregon is a beautiful state with lots of hiking, camping, and good fishing. The deer hunting sucks though, compared to where I live now.

Been to both states and would choose Oregon in a heartbeat if given a choice.

i love oregon.... it would be a great experience.... that place is gorgeous....:D

Sounds like its far from the south.

All the pretty women are here. JMHO.

Oregon is an outdoorsman's dream. You can sneak up to Washington easy enough too-- we leave the border open :)

You will need to learn how to drive up and down hills again <snicker>

My wife really liked Oregon, but says I wouldn't be able to stand it. Even one day without bright blue skies and I feel mopey. Two consecutive days without sunshine and I feel like killing...

I haven't seen every part of Texas, but the outdoor opportunities seem rather limited since there are few public lands.

Have you considered New Mexico or Arizona? A "best of both worlds" kind of thing. Millions of acres of public land. The open plains, deserts, and high mountains offer a variety that's found in few other places. And blue skies almost year-round.

Oregon used to be called God's Country - I used to live there (for about six years) and I'd have to say that God perfected his technique when he made Oregon! If you like the outdoors, it's paradise - I'd move there now if I could convince my wife.

The woods don't smell like they do in the east - but they're much more beautiful.

Oregon is a beautiful state! I was born and raised in Oregon, moved to Washington about six years ago. If you like hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and any thing out doors this is the palce to be! There are some awsome caves to explore in Bend, I love the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington (about 20-30 miles out of Battle Ground). Some great camping outside of Estacada. Fishing and camping at Fisherman's Bend! If you do come, and I welcome you to, just remember to buy some rian gear cause your gonna need it!!!!

I am thinking about moving to Oregon

Which part of Oregon would you move to if you did move?

This pic taken this morning, Tualatin Wildlife Refuge, about 20 miles south of Portland in the Willamette Valley (note the two Bald Eagles flying from right to left):

Oregon has a lot to offer in terms of outdoor activities and varying climates. It is renowned for the rain so be advised. You could visit once or twice with your family and see if it takes...

Seaside is the town I'd be heading to, I guess its allthe way North west. My brother says that they filmed the film Goonies just north of there. I don't mind the rain, infact, a steady drizzle is just fine with me...I like the cold, so thats not a problem...I like the woods..check. I hate the Ocean!...can't stand beaches or anything even remotely near an ocean going vessel (ship). I grew up not that far from the East coast, and I spent summers on an Island rental...fished the coast...did it all, and then somewhere in my late 20's..realised that I have anxiety attacks on open water...freaks me out to freak out...lol. So, I can admire the views, but swimming isn't gonna happen. I would point out that this doesn't happen on lakes. Weird right? Just started happening, I guess I'm gettin soft in the head..lol. Gene

You won't be doing much swimming in the Pacific. Not for fun anyway.

I don't agree - I live on the Pacific hundreds of miles North of you guys - and we swim in the ocean every weekend, from about mid-june to late september.

And when I was growing up on the island, we used to swim on the West coast of the island every summer, as well - and that was probably a hundred miles north of where I am now!

Snakedoc, those are some great pics. Now I want to move to Oregon too. Gunknifenut, do you think you're brother can get me a job too? LOL

More seriously, I've been thinking about moving west for quite a few years now. I've actually been leaning more toward Colorado though since I've got a friend living there already.

I was just in Colorado the other day and it seems they're full-up. The Front Range is now one giant city all the way from Ft Collins to Pueblo. :(
