Organizing your trunk (without the trunk)

We just bought a 2006 Subaru Forester to replace my ageing 1993 Ford Taurus (153,000 miles). I love the all-wheel drive, but I've lost my trunk.

The Taurus had a huge trunk and my huge trunk organizer won't due for the smaller space in back offered by the Forester.

If anyone has enjoyed success in "gearing up" their Forester, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, or other carlike SUV, I would appreciate knowing how you did it.

My wife just bought a chev malibu maxx which is shaped kinda like a forester. I found that the best thing to make a "trunk" space in it was the Ultimate Trunk Organizer from www.duluthtrading.com. The large size fits perfectly, looks good, and secures in place nicely.

What you gon’ do with all that junk? All that junk inside your trunk?

When I bought my Blazer, I just put some milk crates on top of an old towel in the cargo area.

On the subject of trunk organizers, can anyone tell me if the large pull-out drawers on the 4x4s used in "24" (are they big Fords?) are a standard feature. Obviously, in the series theyre packed with Sub-guns, shorts, smoke-bombs & flash-bangs, Im sure THATs not a factory-fit!
I drive a 3-series BMW, and have built a sliding rack next to my CD changer under the top edge of the boot (Sorry, TRUNK!) which holds a briefcase full of almost EDC goodies, and I keep a packed Bergen in the trunk too, on a non-slip mat to stop it moving too much.
Im thinking of getting a 4x4 next, and rather like the X5 or even the Mitsubishi Warrior, both of which, I think could accomodate a large sliding drawer

Heavy Duty plastic Rubbermaid (or similar) storage bin works in my wife's Pacifica. They make a lot of different sizes.

Somebody should use those sentences as song lyrics...

These are what you are talking about.
Truck Vault

Many law enforcement agencies in the U.S. use these to secure weapons and gear in SUV's and Pickup Trucks. Lot's of other uses though.

Thanks, KS, thats a really cool site. The Truck Vaults sure do look well-made. I may have a go at upgrading the drawer in my Beamer now.
Thanks again

Sure. One thing: they advertise it as water resistant. I guess this is so, but I wouldn't leave it out in a rainstorm:D BTW, I am sorry I dion't mention it in my original post, but it was advertised MSRP as 79.99. But At Academy sports in B'ham they were selling for 59.99! If you have an Academy where you are you might check it out before ordering online.

Hey, Cardimon. My Outback (6 yrs old) has an organizer above the spare time but under the swing-away floor deck. It holds a lot of stuff... Not to mention on either side are two hidden cubbies. One holds the jack .but there is room for much more, and there is a duplicate on the other side. Your Forester may be different, but explore a little... there may be other places.

My other recommendation is to use the grimiest, beat-up duffel you can. It makes it MUCH less of an attraction to thieves if you leave the storage area sunshade open.

Have fun!
