Origin of negativity?

I have been asked the following questions on multiple occasions: "Why do you need more than one knife?" "Why do you need a fixed-blade knife?" Why do you need such a big knife?"
It's like some people are suspicious by nature, and anything other than a SAK or other small knife elicits that suspicion.
I have a retired LEO in my family (30 years on the job) who has told me of many instances where knives have been employed as weapons, but he has told me of other instances where baseball bats, screwdrivers, and tire irons have been used as weapons.
If someone wants to hurt someone else, no law is going to stop them.
So unless we want to lock up every person on earth in an isolated jail cell, I guess there will always be "bad guys."
Regulating knives and firearms does not help keep people safe... it only makes them more vulnerable.

Ask some average people to close your Buck 110 lockback. Many of them won’t even attempt to, having little understanding of how a knife even works. We live in a world of safety scissors and “tear on the dotted line” packages. We fear what we do not understand.

In my neck of the woods, it is a product of years and years of indoctrination by media, the ruling politicians, and schools. People are taught to fear knives as weapons, and view people who carry one with suspicion. It's really ironic that this is coming from people who use a large chef's knife at home every day and think nothing of it. I have a coworker who has reported me to my superiors for having weapons at work, yet, when there is a package to open, this same person wants me to open it.

Personally, I take it as an insult when someone views me that way when they see a knife on me. I feel that they are saying that they believe that I am capable of mayhem. They are basically pessimistic in nature, and always assume the worst possible explanation for any given situation. And, if the truth were told, I honestly believe that with a lot of these people, you are actually getting a glimpse into their own hearts. They think in terms of violence, and project that self image on others. How's that from someone who views psychology as a pseudo-science?
