Origin of the "Kentucky" Bowie

The beautiful Linder/Solingen Kentucky is said to be based on a museum original.
Does anyone know what pattern or original knife it is derived from ?

It looks very much like the IXL and some other Sheffield Bowies from the 1850's. The clip is a little longer than usual. Very pretty knife.

I was wondering about the metal "band" in the handle, that seems a bit odd to me. I don´t remember seeing knives with that feature in books.
