I have posted this before with no luck. Does anyone know how many were made, and the value and rarity? I know all the specs and have contacted Rachel at spyderco and even she could not tell me the number manufactured. There has apparently never been one for sale on the Internet because no past sales or post have been found by this guy. Any info will greatly be appreciated. The knife is nib, purchased from a gun store about three weeks ago. Had it on display since 2001. Thanks

I seem to recall Sal posting that they only made one run, which would likely be 1200 pieces. I haven't followed eBay in a few years, the last original C44 I saw went around $180 there, but it wasn't NIB. That was before the recent grey sprint run, which may have lowered the price of the originals.

Yes! I never would of imagined walking into that gun store and seeing them sitting on display in the white spyderco boxes. It was a time capsule. I bought numerous spydies from this guy and they were marked down. You should of seen the markdown prices on them, just an example the dyad was marked down to 79.99. Two merlins marked down to 39.98. A grip pro for 29.99. A spydercard 39.99. And so on. All nib

Whoa!! I wish that dealer was in my area of the country. Those are super good prices for all those models IMO. I'm one of the biggest fans of the C-44 Dyad. Like Yablanowitz said if a used one is going at $180 then you can count on one NIB going for at least $250 would be my guess. I wouldn't even let one of mine go for that actually.

The most rare of all the Dyads is the Micarta Dyad Junior C-39 model. There are a lot of FRN Dyad Juniors out there but very, very few of the Micarta units.

If I were you I would hold that original Dyad until all of the gray, VG-10 Sprint versions are gone and I bet then you will snag a great sale on the one you got.

Man I know. It was crazy! You should of seen the 20 year old benchmades I'm going back for them

If they are rare and there are no recent sales, then auction is your best bet for maximum resale. When dyads ended their routine existence, they were gun show close out knives in both large and small versions. They were sold lower than MSRP, but now if you get the rabid collector....?

Well BROWNSHOE that is so true with so many of the Spyders that came out of what I like to call "THE GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS 1998-2003. It seems like any of them when they go up for sale they fetch extremely high prices compared even to many of the newer popular models. That Cranberry Lum for instance that just auctioned in the past 3 months brought over $1000  and there are other examples I could put up as well.

I am surprised at the lackluster sales that the Sprint model C-44 Dyad has gotten. I didn't think the C-44 Dyad Sprint units would last anytime at all but I've found three dealers that still have them. It's kind of like the nuclear Green USN Catcherman from 2 to 3 years ago>> I heard that Spyderco had some of those almost 6 months after the fact. And I thought an H-1 Catcherman would sell out in one week

But the Dyad sort of has a cult following ( big & smaller units) in which there are a very select group of people who have used and come to love that model because of it's overall great functions as I have. And I can think of about 3 other models that have a similar cult following. And some of the Hawkbills fit that description as well certainly having a cult following of their own.

Guy just posted one on an online auction. Rhymes with sme smay. Get in trouble every time I mention the name on here. Said he bought it from Mr. Glesser. Askin 425 obo. So I guess I will follow it and see what people will pay and we can get an actual auction value for the original micarta c-44. I don't sell my knives but like to get a monetary value on them and list them in the case I die and my wife doesn't sell 10k worth of knives for 500 bucks

What really gets me about the C-44 Dyad model is that I've heard from a couple of sources that it's one of Mr. Glesser's most proud knife designs. Because when you think about it there are not many premium quality double bladed folding knives on the commercial knife market. The few people that really love the Dyad are people that actually use it>> I've also talked to a lot of people in the commercial fishing industry that find the C-44 Dyad to be a great working blade.

I'm hoping that sometime in the future that Spyderco will do another premium double bladed folder. I'm really disappointed that there was a prototype of an H-1 Dyad that didn't get off the ground unfortunately. I had heard but have no way of confirming it that the production costs of the H-1 Dyad were essentially cost prohibitive.

With the advent of this new Nitrogen based steel that Spyderco has used in their TUSK model I'm hoping that maybe a Dyad can be made with LC200N. The handiness of having two of Spyderco's premium blades SE & PE are a workman's dream folder IMO.

Hey Lottapp, my father's family was from Sumrall. I still have a lot of relatives there.

Ha. I've only lived here 5 years. But if your familiar with the people of Sumrall. Your probably a Lott,Sumrall, broome, or Hudson.

I'm still holding out hope that there will eventually be a full sized C-44 Dyad in the Salt Series. With the new nitrogen based blade steel LC200N and the success they have had with it gives me encouragement that they will be able to make a rustproof, salt water proof Dyad.

I think a full sized Dyad with a yellow G-10 handle and two locking blades and hopefully a sturdy lanyard attachement would truly be a dream come true for anyone who makes their living fishing or anyone who lives around salt water.

Also the Gray, VG-10 Dyad is truly an improved, updated version of one of Spyderco's super-classics.

Is it substantially different from the original? I thought it was essentially just different scales.

The original has only a center liner, there is nothing under the Micarta scales. As much weight as the C54 Calypso gained when they added liners for the sprint run, it cooled my interest in the Dyad sprint to know they had given it the same treatment.

Just purchased another micarta dyad from the exchange forum nib 150. Found a jr micarta gonna get it too.

The only gripe I had about the first C-44 Dyad was that it didn't have a solid hole and/or attachement for lanyard use>> I find that to be a problem because I'm aquainted with two guys who use them in the fishing industry where losing one overboard is always a looming problem. I guess a guy could devise one of you own with some simple modifications but I'm wondering why Spyderco never covered that base in the original model? I still find a double bladed model to be a very nice cutting tool for many uses>> but it is something that they could improve in certain areas IMO.
