Original Straight Handle Busse Battle Mistress 1/300

If you’re not going to use it or save it to pass down then what’s the point in holding onto it for years ?
I understand collectors who try to double there money,
I know that big knives are not everyday tools in the US..
People collect things they don’t need like the pop culture things ..
If you truly use this or think you will , then keep it, otherwise sell it .

I guess I’m gonna hang onto it just like I have for the last 25 years and admire it and maybe give it to one of my kids or grandkids

I can, literally, hear the sound of teardrops falling on this forum!!!

I was going to say, "I can hear the sound of Hearts breaking". . . but as we all know, if you own a Busse Knife, "You'll Never Have A Broken Heart"!!!! 😂🤣🤣😁

Congrats!

You've got a beautiful blade there!

Thank you Jerry! I remember watching the test videos and reading all the articles back in the day about the SHBM, so I’ve been a Busse fan for a long time.

IIRC those early SHBM had a different heat treat, and were taken to a higher hardness than later INFI.
You remember correctly👍🏼
Cobalt Cobalt has the scoop…
All original run SHBM's were 60-62. I have tested several to 61 ish.
The first SHBM's were coming out in late 97 early 98. the last SHBM's came out in 1999. By 2000-1 production had switched to BME at the lower 58-60 Rc.

At the same time as the SHBM was the Basics with Mod INFI offered at 58-60 Rc. The basics were the bridge between the Straight handles and the ergos. The Rc was lowered for the basics and kept that way from there on. I have tested several modern blades from 2001 to 2009 and all were in the 59 Rc. The carbon content of INFI is in the 0.55- 0.6%. The fact that Busse gets an Rc of 59 or more out of it is pretty impressive.

97-98 SHBM with smooth handle slabs and smooth bolts or slotted bolts
these are the oldest of the SHBM's. Probably the first 50 -100 had these handles I am guessing. LE#37 had them and the 1 of 6 I use to have had them also but with slotted bolts.

97-98 SHBM with partially grooved handle slabs slotted screws
most of these were slotted screws but I have had a few with hollow rivets. Arguably the most desirable SHBM handle

97- 98 - SHBM with fully grooved handle slabs and slotted screws

98-99 SHBM with partially grooved handle and hollow rivets

99 - SHBM with fully grooved handle slabs and hollow rivets
The most common SHBM handle.

mid 99 - SHBM with angle grooved micarta handles and hollow rivets
this is near the end of the SHBM production run and were not very common. I have not see coated SHBM's with this handle but I have a few uncoated ones with this handle. Probably the rarest of all handles that I have noticed.

the end - SHBM with diamond quilted micarta handles like the E-handles.

Great info

Here's my 1/300 just for fun

Doesn't get nearly enough use in my current city slicker life situation, but it's always within reach, living in my backpack at all times

TENTEX TENTEX Can you please say a little about 2nd & 3rd one down? I noticed the beginning of swedge grind is a little different on each.

Cobalt please educate fellow hogs on this one!

So that is one of Three ASHBM's that Garth custom made for me, patterned after the original 10th Mountain Division grind from the original series. Garth killed it with those knives. They were perfect.

Just for comparison sake, here are two originals, one mine, one somewhere else:
