Original vs Modded

It totally banks off who did it and on top of that....and really: How it looks. If a good job was done and the handle wasn't modded (my peeve) it usually is worth more to me at least. My 1/300 is worth more to me at least now that it's been Banned....and I put Cobalts 1/300 that he has (or HAD) for sale at a higher worth than MY smooth scaled 1/300 that's lightly used and still has the coating. A slight regrind is MANDATORY on certain knives that are just TOO thick. Edge geometry is important to me and is worth a few extra bucks.

Next, lets talk about Modifications to the blade.

The most common is to alter the edge bevel.

That is ok on a user, and on a fancy overall upgrade.

Most safe Queens do not ever get the Bevel changed.

I wonder, a few years for now if the Asym edges left factory will add to the value, it will certainly date the knife.

Thinning the edge on a smaller Busse seem to either not affect the value ot to raise ir a little.

Thinning the edge on a Big Chopper on the otherhand seems to really be a personal choice and not very popular.

Other Blade Modifications,

Top grinds, Swedges, larger choils, sharpened Choils, Serrations, removing and or opening up the Talon holes, file work,

To me depends on the quality of the work, but not real important who did the work.

More, "Do I trust?" the person that did the work.

I have been involved for about 9 years and am for the most part do not care anymore about the warrenty.

I have done Terrible things to these knives with hammers, Ballpeen to sledge and cut car frames using Busse knives as a chisel.

If it looks good and I trust the grinder I am good to go.

On the otherhand, most people worry about of they break the knife "Will Jerry replace it?"

So, for some people the odd Grinder will lower the value of the knife.

By the Way, thin tips on Big Busse knives tend to bend not break, just bend it back and carry on.

Another modder that does a bang up job and so far has sold each modded knife for more than it originally went for (if I remember the prices fetched) is Soupmonger. He does excellent stripping/dimple removing, and convexing, not to mention taking the tail off an SS, making the blade straight and removing the scallops from the spine.

He also makes sweet sheaths for them.
(after seeing his SS mod, I took my pumpkin to the sand paper and took the curve out of the blade and convexed it. I will strip it later, but will likely leave the steel un-sanded). I would not expect to get any more than I paid for the SS. likely less than I paid. But on the up side, I know it never got hot enough to affect the temper (just used a sheet of sandpaper laying on a sheet of glass, then later on a mouse pad).

I got a modded FBMLE from Bill Siegle. It has a smoothed handle, and a top clip added. I don't think it will go up in value as much as unmodded FBMLE's because of the collector thing. But I use it, and I think at the very least, I can sell it for what I have in it.

Well no pics heres a couple .Value priceless work done by BAN .
