Ortur Laser Master 3

Yea, that Xtool D1 with 20 watt would be nice. Hey, it's "only" a little over a grand:)

What do you have now??

I have absolutely nothing similar to this, it will be our first laser. I use a personalizer plus or a cold stamp for my knives. I haven’t been happy with either because they are so limiting (every change in template style, font size, knife model and steel, etc.) costs me money to order new.
Honestly, my usage of this will be very limited compared to the benefit for the wife’s creative endeavors.

While the OLM3 (and other 10 watt diode lasers) will do the job, they are slower. I"m seeing some etches where I'm trying to mark really dark take almost 10 minutes or even more sometimes. That's why I think the 20 watt might be better.

It seems like the AtomStack 4 fiber is a really good deal. I see it now <$1k here's a YT video showing what it engraves, copper, etc

Hej man I'm trying to convince myself into buying a laser here! 😅
I pay 2000 Euros for this one , in advance :) When my friend's new laser arrives, most likely at the end of the month I will get this one .Since he is still using it and I have already paid for it, I am confiscating that laptop 🤣
It take two ? or three seconds ? to mark knife ........

Is that the 20 watt fiber? That's a good price - those tend to be over $3000 USD here. The 50 watt fibers would really mark fast.

I don t know , Ken .I will call to ask that girl on pictures /my friends daughter / tomorrow . I know that new is over 5000 Euros

Over 5,000 Euros? I'll bet that's a 50 watt unit. WOW! Talk about etching.

Friend have big machine shop , over 20 CNC , like house big waterjet , 4KW laser fiber , EDM wire 😍 ... etc . He mostly works for Germany ,large quantities of parts in series. He need now one which can mark on round parts .
I can t take good picture ....it is very deep you can catch with nail , and all that in seconds

I looked at the Atomstack M4 (20w fiber), and the YouTube reviews were mixed, some good but too many negatives to give it a try just yet.
Ordered the xtool d1pro 10w and all the trimmings for just north of a grand. They have a bundle that includes a 40w laser module but I wasn’t sure we need that much so I called and they said if I wasn’t satisfied with the 10w module, I could purchase the 40w at the bundle price difference.
I guess we will see how it goes in about a week or so.

You gonna love that xtool D1 Pro - from my reading it's about the same abilities as the Ortur LM3 I've got. Can't imagine changing to the 40 watt head - that would be amazing! It's "only" $1100 for just the head :) They have a 20 watt head that would be a real upgrade from the 10 watt. Had I the knowledge I now have (very small amount) I think I might have ordered the 20 watt myself. Awwww, the 10 watt will do what I 'need", just slower.

Congrats and be sure to post a follow up thread about your laser.

I was okay with the 20w unit, but she saw the 10/40w bundle and was going to pull THAT trigger until I put the brakes on. The 10w will do everything she wants to do and “might” satisfy my needs. We’ll see. Let you all know how it goes.

You got a wonderful woman there - hang on to her :) I agree the 10 watts like it's going to do a lot. I'm "assuming" the head is about the same as the head on the OLM3 10 watt head. That marks SS pretty good.

The Xtool D1Pro (10w diode), arrived yesterday, took me right at 1.5 hours to assemble the unit and another hour loading Xtools free Creative Space software and checking that out.
Software is pretty simple to use, but I would imagine it is more limiting than the Lightburn software (which has a modest fee associated with it). Still, the freebie software will satisfy my needs. I was able to transfer my logo image from a photo into the system and burn it in pretty short order (aeb-l). Not knowing how this would work for size, I made it too small. When examined under the optivisor, all lettering is crisp, clear, and clean albeit too small for naked eye.

Next, I created a new, simple text file and burned the text in 36 seconds x3.

Now I need to spend some real time with this and see how far I can push it. I see potential in this, but don’t know the software well enough yet to get the most from it.
I see that Xtool now has an IR laser module that is metal specific for the same price as the 10w diode module. All of their modules (so far), are plug and play with the D1 Pro unit.
I am keeping an eye on that and researching fiber lasers as well.

That's a good looking mark. If that's only a 36 second total burn time that's faster than my OLM3 will do. For a mark like that I'd normally do 300mm/min with 4 passes using "fill" which would take 3 or 4 minutes total time. That looks like what LightBurn would call a "line" burn which is a good bit faster than a "fill". It still looks good.

You gonna enjoy that laser

It’s 36s x3 on the second one.
The YouTube reviews I watched showed the Ortur being a bit faster than the Xtool, IIRC?

What speed are you using? I did a check and "KenHolland" AND AEB-L below with 6mm text height at 500mm/min speed is 44 second per pass. When you say "36s x3" you are saying 36s per pass and using 3 passes making a total of 108 sec total time? If you're saying 36 total time for 3 passes, then the Xtool is MUCH faster than the OLM3.

108sec total. The Creative Space software asks for the material type (stainless steel necklace), and it chooses the speed/power setting.
