Osage is one of my all time favorite handle materials.

Here we have an HI Chiruwa Ang Khola, Fiddleback nessie, Landi MPM, an early nessie I made out of a J Russell skinner and a David Farmer Pixie.

You can see how the older more used knives are turning darker.

I've never had an osage-handled blade, didn't know it aged that well. Looking very good though! I'm going to have to pick up some of those little green river blades sometime to put handles on. How did you like that little 5" spearpoint russell blade?

I love osage, I have a bunch curing right now. Did you do those handles yourself man?

Well it sounds almost cliche because I keep saying it, but I think you have found your calling, brother. It's just a matter of figuring out how to make more money doing it! Your work is fantastic!

If I could quit my day job I'd do it in a heartbeat. But knife and sheath making doesn't pay the bills. And if it was a "job" I'd hate it.

Crap, forgot my bird and trout knife. I did this one out of a J Russell "ripper".

WOW from a fence post? Cool....

I hear you about the job thing. If I taught martial arts all the time, I'd want to do something else.

When are you going to start making Nessies? I will take one in osage!!
BTW, is it pronounced o-sage as in sagebrush? Or sage as in massage?

I have been wanting a Nessie with a osage handle to match my Nessmuk hatchet.

All I need is to find someone with a cool chunk of osage to make one for me.

;)

Osage Orange is my favorite wood. I have several tools and some longbows with it. I got a picture of a Muskrat Man Full Tang Puuko I had him make for me that should be here Monday or Tuesday. I chose Osage for the handles. I noticed in the photos he sent me the Osage was already darkened like your bit from the 75 year old fence post. I asked him how he got it so dark since some of mine had spent several years in the sun and was just getting the darker appearance. He says he has a way of accelerating the aged look of it somehow. It really looks nice. I wasn't going to post a pic of it on the board until I got it, but since this thread came up, I thought I'd through it out there:

Thanks for the pics. I don't think this wood gets it's proper respect. It can be hard to work, but it is some tough, beautiful wood.

Especially when it gets old. This little stand is from a 75 year old fence post. I'd love to find some more like this.

If you could find more like that you would not need a day job. great looking wood.
