Osage Flat Bow

Not familiar with the movie "the Mission"
Long arrows are frequently used in South America by the indigenous people who use bows. there shots were at short range and through heavy foliage and the mass of the longer heaver arrow helped to keep the arrow from deflecting off leaves.
Longer arrows also commonly used where shots are taken in to the water. The mass aides in penetration and the length is a visual aid in overcoming the refraction of the waters surface.
In most heavily foliaged parts of the world the arrows tend to be longer and the shots shorter

and indians with blowpipes? dont they also live in the jungle? do they use long darts then?
 
wow, that's awesome!

i've been having a lot of fun lately with traditional bows. i think i'm gonna get myself a viper deluxe, nice and cheap. i wish i could do that instead, though. just outstanding.

You need to go to "tradgang.com". Traditonal bow hunters and half of them shoot self bows like yours and they make them too. Tons of info. about how to do this sort of thing. Go brother!!

Blowgun darts take only minutes to make compared to arrows, they usually carry a lot of darts,but only 2 arrows is normal.
The length of the blowgun, usually anywhere from 8 to 12 feet help to thread it through the brush.
Most blowgun hunting is for monkeys and the shots are nearly straight up.
Most of the jungle shots with the bow are down at peccary or fish.
