Osborne 940 vs Benchmade 300SN AXIS Flipper

I have a Benchmade 300SN AXIS Flipper and I would like to upgrade it. I like the flipper's speed and the fact that it prevents fingers from sliding onto the blade. It fits nicely in my hand and it is just the right size, but I think that the blade length is too short for me and I don't like the serrated combo blade, I like the straight blade. I have been thinking about selling it and buying an Osborne 940 (aluminum handles). I was worried that it might be not grippy enough or that it might slip out and cut me while I'm using it.
thoughts?
I have this one http://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM300SN/Benchmade-300SN-AXIS-Flipper-Plain-Blade
and am looking at this one http://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM9...knife-s30v-satin-plain-blade-aluminum-handles

Unless your hands are covered in slime the 940 handles really shouldn't slip. That green anodizing actually gives the handle a kind of chalky texture. So even when wet it isn't slick.
It is an EDC icon for a reason. the knife just flat out works on so many levels.
I still carry mine quite regularly over my customs when I think I may need something you can be less careful with.

300 flipper who? ;)

(I save a bunch of money for knives by buying cheap desks. Priorities.)

Aluminum is plenty grippy. It has a chalky feeling. But it really shines when it gets worn in. That being said, you cant go wrong with the g10 either. Im EDCing the 940-2 currently and loving it. (See http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1420862-Challenge-Carry-only-one-for-a-month/page8 for details on that :) )

There's also the 940-1501 w/ g10 scales and a c20v blade. Ill be picking one up soon along with a 940-1. You'll love any of them :D

I would say to look at what you intend to do with the knife. The 300sn and the 940 are different animals. I purchased a 940 and it was smooth, light and disappeared in my pocket. The reason I sold it was that it did not fit my hand well. I would encourage you to see if you could find one in a store to try first.

I hate alumium handles due to me being OCD to scratches on these handles.
I prefer G10 handles hands down!

I have a Spyderco PM2 and with the big hole in the blade, I learned how to deploy the blade left or right hand using my thumb for lefty and thumb or middle fingers for righty. !

Infact, I like the PM2 holes than the BM axis lock .

Get the 940-2 it has G10 handles. The 940 is my favorite Benchmade 👍😊. Kevin

Without a doubt look at the KW exclusive 940-1501. I have 5 94x and the 1501 is the best of the bunch IMO!!
Excellent steel with sweet looking G10 scales! The scales on it are a bit wider and fit my hand better than the aluminum scales.
Outstanding blade!!
Good luck!
Joe

940 all day. The 300 is cool and is a Benchmade with a flipper and axis and all, but when I handled one the dimensions just seemed off and I didn't like it much. The 940 is not quite as robust feeling, but is a very unique and refined knife that feels like no other. Same for the 531 and crooked River.

I am going to keep this really simple and say that it's really difficult to find anyone who is disappointed with a 940.

I have been able to find one on bladehq for 170 and has g10 handles. Sound good?
Also, I'm planning to sell the 300 to get money for the 940-2.

You'll love it. Iv been flipping my 940-2 and 730-1501 for the past few hours watching tv. Love the 940-2 so much. Benchmade needs more green barrel spacers in their line!

Ok, now I just need to find somebody to sell it to for as close to 150 or 170 as I can get.

Also, how much would Benchmade charge if I asked for a deep-carry clip instead of the standard one?

You need a gold membership to sell here on the forums. ebay seems to be a popular choice.

You can upgrade to a gold membership and sell it in the exchange. You'll be hard pressed to get anything close to that for a used 300SN however. As for the clip Benchmade will likely send you one for free. Give them a call, great customer service.

Call Benchmade and request a Contego clip.
They will send it out for free!
You can use the website to request it, but a phone call will get it about 10x faster.

I just picked up the 940-1, my first 940 and i can see why people love it. A little pricy for the carbon fiber and S90V upgrade but I'm glad i went with it. Just a great knife.
