Today I got my BM 770 BC1 back from Warren Osborne today. He did a hand contouring job on the CF scales, and then hit it with the buffer to fully polish the scales. This treatment makes a great looking knife even better! The CF reflects light differently than the facotry version. Though you can see some difference in this image, it really stands out when you see it in real life.

NOTE: Please do not contact Warren and ask to send your 770 in to have him do this, he did this for me as a favor. However, he has informed me that a major distributor has contacted him about contouring a batch of 770's as an exclusive for them. This will be a limited run. As soon as I find out which distributor it is I will post it.

Damn that is one hell of an improvement, How much time labor wise do you think it took to do that?

Did he actually flatten the scale so that the "weave" of the CF looks more uniform, or does polishing make it look more uniform??

Wow, the one reason I don't own a 770 is because of that.
The stock knife looks so crude with the unfinished scale flats and the slightly rough edges.
Now that I see what a 770 could look like, it makes me wanna go buy one and do the customization myself.
Maybe a hand rubbed finish would look good on it too...kinda like the finishes on William Henry knives.

KC - I don't know how much time it took, but Warren charged me $50 to do it. A little price to pay but IMHO it is worth it. I know it involves breaking the knife down and working on the scales individually.

Matt, it looks exactly opposite of what you said. The contouring will make the weave uneven. The cross section of the knife now looks similar to this ---> () That brings out some un-evenness to the weave and the polishing makes it reflect light more.

Did he re-polish the knife with anything? I am thinking of trying to buff mine out, but am not sure what to use. Is there some kind of coating to polish the CF with or is it just a hand buff job.

JT - The only work he did was on the handle itself. Not sure what you would use to buff out the CF like that, but it does look like it was done on a buffer as it is very slick and glossy looking. Tell you what, you might want to ask over there on Shop Talk, or better yet - email Rob Simonich (knives@mt.net) because he does this same finish on his CF handles.

Very nice Dex. I had one of these and had thought about smoothing the scales down a little. Its pretty simple if you have access to tools to take the knife apart and polish it. I would use some wet/dry sandpaper and then you could polish it with a dremel tool. Wish I had mine back now so I could try it :D

NCBlades -- I have a dremel tool. But how would I polish the CF? Would I use some kind of polishing agent special for CF or rubbing compound or what?

Thanks...JT

Very nice Dexter. It makes a great knife even better! Does the disassembly by Warren void the factory warranty? ;)

Later,
Chris

For gent's knives it's cool, but not for hard use mega folders :) Crawl back into that hole from which you came :p

Hi gentlemen! everyone sounds confused as to how the handles were done. Looks to me like he replaced them with stock carbon fiber. The carbon fiber comes with the finish that is on the bottom one allready, polished and everything!:D All that was done is drilling holes and grinding the profile and some shaping. The new version is much better!
Here is a picture of the carbon fiber I got from Kovals. Yes, that is how much it cost.
