Here's the timeline:
March 2011 -- I order 2 knives, one of which is the Mini Tuff Lite -- which was not noted on the website as "out of stock" or pre-order or anything other than in stock.
March 2011 -- One knife arrives, but not Mini Tuff (of course). By this time, I realize the knife is not in stock anywhere, so I'm content to wait.
July 2011 -- Mini Tuff is showing up as in stock in a number of online sites but not this one. I get no word as to status of my order other than it is open. I cancel the order and receive an email acknowledging the cancellation and closing the order (which luckily I have saved)
Yesterday -- A charge of $33.48 shows up in my checking account as "processing" from Oso Grande. I am mystified, since I ordered nothing from them since March 2011. I contact my bank and make them aware that there is a problem. I also email Oso Grande (though it's a Sunday, so I don't expect a response).
Today -- With no response to my email, I call Oso Grande. Yes, they say, your order for the Mini Tuff Lite is shipping. But I closed my order, says I, and I have the email from you acknowledging that fact. The order was never closed, says Oso Grande. And you should have contacted us before your bank on this bogus charge. (I think not.)
So. On their records is an order placed almost a year ago, that was cancelled over 6 months ago for a knife that's been generally available for 6 months and that they decide to ship and charge my card for now -- and that raised no red flags with them.
Needless to say, my list of trusted dealers (which they were on the very tail end of anyway) has just gotten shorter.
UPDATE: I did receive an email pretty promptly today, letting me know a credit had been issued. So at least Oso Grande fixes its mistakes quickly, and for that I give them credit.
