OT: 303 Enfield to 10 round 7.62x39 AK mag conversions

Saiga take regular high-cap, or is it one of those stupid single-column jobbies? Been thinking about getting a Saiga for a while.

There is a pretty good discussion on the scout list at yahoo groups right now about using a cz in 7.62 X39 for a light scout rifle. Sounds good to me.

My scout finally got blooded this morning, nice heavy doe. Going back out again tomorrow, have more tags, must hunt more deer.

Tomorrow the 12in sirupti gets packed. What fun!

CZ would make a great scout. They're putting out some amazingly high quality rifles for the price, and think it would give a high quality scout for a lot less than a "real" cooper.

And the SAiga will work with maybe half your AK mags. It is double stack, but it doesn't have a feed ramp, and needs a bit of modification on mag catch to work with all AK mags. Part of my conversion is going to be modifying the mag catch and adding a feed ramp

They use a Romanian 5 and 10 round single stack mags, The higher cap double stack were tried but required more milling off to bring the rear of the mag up to reliably pick up and feed rounds.

The Saiga also uses ten round single stack mags, but costs 160-180 and can apparently be transformed legally by adding US made parts and then use double column mags. ( It's also cheaper than the SKS's available. )

The CZ's are gorgeous. I once had a full stock ( mannlicher ) in 223. Can't get a full stock in 7.62x39. Yet. That's ok, - will help keep calibers separated. I'll get another one of these days. And one in 7.62x39 too.

Congrats on your first deer of the season.
