ot: about axe styles

There wasn't a problem with the axe head itself, but with the handle. I meant the handle broke because the eye was not large enough.

This is just one of several projects that I plan for when I do get the forgbeque up. It is now midnight here in florida (vacation) so I will post more tomorrow.

Where does one find a Blacksmith's Supply? My great-grandfather was a blacksmith in south-central Oklahoma, forget the name of the place offhand.

Many of the animal health supply stores that sell tack and other equestrian supplies have blacksmith equipment.
The place where we get my Bigeloil, a horse liniment, has several really nice anvils as well as hammers, all sorts of tongs, rasps and files and the like.

Rusty and the rest of you gents, HERE is a link to a link of all things blacksmithing. I hope that it helps. I have dealt with Centaur in the past, as well as a few of the others. I would also like to make a plug for THIS VIDEO I wish that I had it before I started pounding iron. As they say, a picture says a thousand words, and a movie is thousands of pictures. I can't recommend this video enough for the newbie. This will show you how to make knives like 90% of the third world does.

Steve, I've just requested that video as a Christmas gift. It looks great.

The following link descibes itself as a 'Virtual Junkyard for Blacksmiths'. Lots of links and for-sale stuff (MAN, that's an expensive hobby!):

By the way, where is the MWKK and when is it going to be held :) ;)? I thought it took place in Ohio last time. If so I might be able to swing by and bring a forge we can use. I'm not putting my anvil in the car though :D :D . Don't quote me on that though...;).

I would suggest you start with an old ball pein hammer head. Pretty easy to forge a hawk out of one, just go slow.
