OT: Any EMT's amoung us?

You can take all the classes you want but till you encounter that 1st crucial "On The Job Training" incident you have no idea till then how you will handle it. I have seen several people vapor lock when they needed to be working on the patient.

Very true...I hope to get out on some runs as a volunteer with my local FD prior to signing on with anyone.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences!

I'm sure they prohibit it, but you'd think allowing EMT's to carry at least concealed would make sense.

Do like I did for years before the Concealed Carry law came along....carry anyway.

Whether you get on a Fire Department or not, it is good to study this. Inevitably you will have a family member at some point who will be mighty glad you are an EMT

Good point!

Best thing I got while helping out a Ear, Nose & Throat Doc was getting this little piece of surgical equipment called a Alligator Hemostat. This is a long skinny clamp that they use to get stuff out of ear canals and nostrils.

Now if 1 of my boys shoves a lego or small toy piece in their nose I am ready.

There's a couple tools on my Hanuman I've used for some strange things.... I excavated a paper wad from Trav's nose with the little scooper thingie...(and a straw taped to a vacumn cleaner)

I'm an EMT here in Southern California. The cert will help you get on board with a fire department.

EMT is a crappy career though, I'm sorry to say. I enjoy the work quite a bit, but the pay is only slightly better than say, working fast food. I was earning quite a bit more at Home Depot than I was as an EMT.

If you want to make a living in emergency medical services get your paramedic license.
