OT: any flashaholics here?

I wonder what will happen to you guys when you get old, already having the flashlight obsession covered?

I'll probably start eating cat food. People will think it's dementia but only I'll know it's a ruse.
 :)

Underwood Deviled Ham is real, real, real close to cat food.

My cats can't tell the difference; neither can I.

Boy do they come running when that can pops.

And you can use a Surefire light to find the can when the power's out...

Yeah, I just got a new overcoat that has velcro down the front so when I see a crowd of ladies standing around I just....er.....OH! THis is about people addicted to "flashlights" sorry wrong thread!! :footinmou :o

Simple, I go down to the dollar store and buy 5 or 6 2 packs of D cells, the same number of 4 packs of C cells and I can change the batteries in most of my flashlights out for the next 3-6 months. I also have a box on the service porch with lots of replacement bulbs.

I've got those little coffee cup hooks screwed discretely into half a dozen places
so I can hang a flashlight on each and find one in the dark. About once a week I hunt down the flashlights and rehang them where they are supposed to be.

And I have candles. These are the same as the foot tall " Saint whatever " you can buy but without the religious markings. Must have 20 of them, some with lighters taped to the glass. (They used to all have lighters).

Maybe the fact I like 22 lr and 7.62x39 cause you can afford to pick it up by the case tells you something about me. I'd rather have half a dozen adequate knifes like K-bars stashed away against emergencies that a single nee-plus-ultra someplace I can't get to. I'm the guy that figures a 38 in the truck, a 38 in the car trunk, a 38 at home, a 38 at the office ( if possible ), and these are just the back-ups in baggies with 50 rounds of ammo!

Before I say what I came to this thread for, I just re-read all the posts... and everybody, check out Rusty's, right above. To think that was only 3 weeks ago... that post says something about him, but all 8,000 probably do too.

Well, cognitivefun, as a result of this thread I too have become a flashaholic. Time, the internet & peer advice has led to some good purchases. Wanted a Sure Fire, sure they are great but they are pricy. Hung out a little in "candlepower forum" but searching that thing is a mess. Lumens, luxeons, lithiums, candlepower. This is what I wound up with:

Inova T1. Best little EDC LED light I could find. Happy, happy with this thing- $20. Spot, not flood light, 10 hrs. on 1 AA. Easy to carry, bright enough.

Inova T5. Awesome little flood light. 5 LED's, 20 hrs. on 2 123A's. Absolutely lights up rooms, to look at it hurts. Nice wide area lighting.

Still looking for a high-lumens, 2 hr. burn "tactical" light. Possibly Inova T0, these things are built like tanks and relatively affordable.

Also (I told you I was SICK) picked up a Streamlight Stylus. Amazingly bright & light weight. AND a Browning Black Ice light with a 90 lumens xenon and 6 LED's in red, blue (contrast) and white. 24 hrs./LED, 2 hrs. xenon burn on 2x123A.

From Sure Fire I did order 2 doz. 123A lithium batteries- cheapest I could find- $15/doz. 10 yr. shelf life; I'm set.

Why all these lights? I am in a very dark place, literally & figuratively. The wrecked house no longer has lights, and the cursed FEMA trailer is lit with tail light bulbs. My sympathies go out completely to any other forumites living in a trailer.

Anybody else besides T Erdelyi got an Inova? They rock.

Wowzers, AA, my Candlepower stock will be zooming up now! :D

It's another virus, like HIKV. It's lots of fun. I love both my collecting hobbies (not to mention guns.)

Congratulations. I have the a T5 and I love the beam, I just love the beam. It is so neat, not to mention incredibly economical.

For a "tactical" light -- have you looked at a Surefire G2? I have heard are very nice and bright and not very expensive. I may pick one up soon. You can get the HOLA, the high end bulb, for 120 lumens, not bad!

Another light I love is the Streamlight Jr. Luxeon. Not as bright as a G2 of course, but it runs on AAs, fits great in a shirt pocket, very high quality too.

Turned into a flashaholic also by accident candlepower forums
unbelievable how far this technology has come.
got some surefire E1 and 2 but my edc is a Nuwaii QIII with R123s
always looking for something that I can beat up that can take it and
is not that expensive
Just got my hands on a 9N rechargeble gonna have to sell something

4)Streamlights, 1)Surefire, 8)Mag Lights and 3)Inovas

I just got an Inova X1 in the mail, much better than a Mag Solitaire, about the same size, I like it already :D 10 hrs. burn time on a single AA

Now the Surefire sits by the bed, the X1 sits on the keys, and the X5 at the bottom of the pocket.

For you guys that have the Streamlight Stylus, the one that uses AAAA batteries, I was told you can take apart a 9VDC battery and get 6 of 'em out of it, hell I didn't even know that 9VDC batteries were made up of smaller batteries.

The pix I have found on the web don't show much of the rear end of the X1. I take it from your comment here that it must have some way to attach it to a keyring? How compatible is that with the pushbutton/twist tailcap switch?

So far, I haven't found any tailcap switches I like for non-tactical flashlights. The tailcap thumbpress switch is clearly good for a shooting light, but I'd rather hold a non-shooting light with the lightup end at the side of my hand that has the thumb rather than the side with the pinky and that doesn't seem to go well with tailcap switches in general. Minimags or Arc AAA's seem to work well because you twist the head to turn it on or off. There is/was a model of Brinkman Legend with a tailcap switch that could be grasped relatively well with the heel end of the hand so that the body could be turned with the thumb/index finger. I contrast that with the Dorcy 2AA/4LED light that I got recently where the tailcap switch seems pretty hard to use this way.

How is the X1 for this sort of use?

Thanks,
Paul

It has a hole for keyring atachment but I just slip a splitring through the belt loop for the sheath, this way I can take it off the keyring without any trouble.

It also has the same type of tailcap as the X5, twist on/off, momentary, it turns easy enough I just use my thumb to twist the tailcap.

A 9-volt disection will follow; 2 AAAA's were $2.99 at Büst Buy and $3.49 at Radio Shåk.

And nice pic of the T1... ain't it great?

prn, just buy one, they're only like $20. Waterproof, 2000 lb crush strength.

I used to think MagLites were the be-all, end-all, but at least 2 and maybe 3 little ones failed on me EDC. Keys wore the colored finish off and switches broke.

Then again, I used to think Ka-Bars were the only knives...

Flash? As in flash animation?

Oooohhh, flashLIGHTS. I get it now. I have a Surefire I'm quite fond of, thanks to Yiterp. But I have to admit I spend more time watching the cartoons than using the flashlight. :p

4 D' Maglite for work; AA Maglite with amber lens in bedside drawer, AA mini GI with amber lens in vehicle and three Photon Freedom's in UV, IR and Red

Plus two all copper EverReady's with patent dates from around the 1920's if I recall....

I pretty much live on CPF these days at work. been into lights since I was a kid, and 20 years later I own 8 surefires rangning from E1l to M3t, 12 modifies mags from MJLed Mini to a 3-D with Osram 64623, and dozens of Luxeon lights...can't get enough of them.... :D

It's so nice to see these old threads come back to the surface. Reminds me of the movie "The Creature from the Black Lagoon." :D
I just got an Aviator A-2 and love it. Also a couple of G-2s, little Photons, and Maglights in various sizes around the house and in the vehicles... Oh, yah... I'm really old, too. I mean, realy, realy OLD.

I have had an A2 Aviator for half a year now. Great light. I really like the two-stage tailcap, and the red LEDs are awesome for wandering around the house at night without lighting the entire place up like a baseball stadium. Pocket clip just gave up the ghost though.

Streamlight Stinger is what I used at work for 10 years, dont have a clue where it is in my house since I retired a few years ago, that charger flat out sucked having gone through 2 of them because they like to broil inside while plugged into the wall, at least I was home both times to hear and smell it...3 cell Maglite, 2 Fulton MX-991/U both have the red filters in for night use, Inova Red L.E.D, Inova Infrared L.E.D which I use for infrared photos or use at night with my Sony DCR-PC330 brightens everything up with the nightshot mode on!! Inova UV L.E.D for use with shooting photos of the watches to make that green stuff glow and I also use the Inova UV to find vaseline glass in antique stores

Neat pix, Sweet.... Isn't there some talk about using UV LED flash lights to purify water? Read something, can't remember.

I'm still sick, sick, sick... and Nuwai Q-III should be arriving today. 3 watt, 75 lumens, $35. Can't beat that.

Almost went Inova X0- 32 lumens, $50 or Inova T2- 2 watts, 40 lumens, $50.

Will find out about Nuwai quality.... nothing can beat how well the Inovas are made.

Also, the bluish LED lights seem to help light up monofilament for night fishing.

Ad Astra :(

also, not sure what is a "vaseline marble" but I'm sure someone will be along with a good joke... To me, it looks JUST LIKE the deadly green Orb from the movie "Heavy Metal"...

Maybe it's just me, but I have a really hard time justifying so much money on a surefire when there are still so many nice knives and guns out there. Maybe it's just a matter of priorities, but until I'm rich, I'll stick to my Maglites. :)
