OT: Any HI Fans who are also 1911 fans?

I'm afraid that I don't own a handgun, but have always loved the way a 1911 looks. Want one someday. Soon.

Had nickeled one in 45. Beautiful otherwide, wouldn't shoot. Friend bought it, rebarrelled, and still keeps handy.

Two 9mm Commanders, years apart. Never got either to feed BALL reliably.

Got the Ruger P-90 DC in .45. I think with the lower frame being alloy, the gun balances out well, and the large grip is my size.

Colt Combat Commander and AK Bowie. Aptly named "Beauty and the Beast".

I have a series 80 Goldcup and recently bought a series 80 Combat target. Anyone have any idea when the Combat Target might have been made? I don't rember seeing anything in gun books saying anything about it. It looks exactly like the Gold Cup except for the finish. I have a couple of Pythons And a six inch 22 Diamondback also. My favorite is the python.

The Springfield long slide with a 6" barrel really appeals to me, anybody have experience with one?

Not with a Sprinfield, but I shot a Safari Arms Matchmaster with a 6" barrel. The sights where really big and horrible, everybody but me shot it well though. I shoot good with Novak's or similar sights (like the factory Kimber sights).

The only handgun that I think goes better with a khuk than the 1911 is the old broomhandle Mausers. I have always wanted one of those in 45acp!!

Colt Commander's barrel was a bit short for me, couldn't shoot it worth a damn, seems like the extra muzzle flash & slightly less wheight & MV were irritating me...qualified expert with the full size one tho. when i got divorced the ex got the .357mag ss model 19 while i got the colt govt. model...

i'd rather lob a good ol' 45acp at someone trying to damage me than a dinky 9mm/.38 , might take longer to get there but when it does....

HI Khuk's must attract .45 lovers...

Well I don't have an HI khukuri but have a Nepalese Army khukuri that P was selling and it is nice. Am supposedly getting a better one made but we will have to see. Anyways I have owned several variants of the s.a. auto design. Starting with a High power and then a .40 Firestar that I still wish I had as it is the only handgun I ever used with malice intent. The others being Kimber, Colt, and Para. By far the BEST shooter is my current Colt offering. It is a low serial# CCO. Commander top end mated to a Officers frame. It has given me the best all around accuracy and reliability out of any of the previously menioned .45s. I mean reliability too. Never has jammed or hiccuped once in over 3k rounds through it. Great barrel hood to frame fit along with an excellant fit to the barrel bushing and barrel. No play whatsoever at all. That barrel hoods locks up like fort knox. Good trigger too. Right at 5lbs with no creep after the shot. Great dehorning done too so I can just slip in the waistband for a quick trip to the store at night and not worry about getting hung up or irritated from sharp peices of frame.

These guns came out in different iterrations and some say the lower LF serial # guns are the best. Beats me but I shot it against the smaller Kimbers, a Wilson, and Les Baer. The Colt was as accurate at 15yds as any of them. Several hundred bucks cheaper too. Talking the Wilson and Les Baer models. Frame to slide was not nearly as tight as the Les or Wilson or even the Kimber though. But what alot of people don't realize is that the frame to slide fit has little to do with over all accuracy of the .45. It is mainly how the barrel is fitted to the frame(link pin and feet) and how the bushing is fitted to the slide and barrel. This promotes reliable lock up at all times. This is the only gun Ihave had in the s.a. .45acp venue that hasn't had something done to it by a gunsmith. I mean nothing. I put some skateboard tape on it and then a set of old black heavliy checkered colt grip panels. Weighs right at 31.5oz loaded. Enough bluster for now. Keep'em sharp

Is there anything more classic than a Parkerized military issue 1911A1? Fond memories of that monster and as a young Ensign actually qualified with it.

Later in life ended up with an L9A1, the issue Beretta 92 and finally with a Beretta 96SD. With my limited knowledge and skill I would probably go back to the FN.

Mmmm. 1911. This is one of those "I like 'em but have other priorities with my money" guns. My uncle (Larry, not Bill ;) ) has one that I absolutely love to shoot.

But, come to think of it, almost everything is a "like 'em but have other priorities with my money" kind of thing to a college student, so give me a few years and I'll probably be toting one on a belt opposite my 18" AK.
