Then find one of the older ones made from carbon steel. You should be able to find one on EBAY for less than $60. If you want a superb custom bowie, try to find one by Steve Voorhis. They are forged from 5160 and you can sometimes find them on ebay for less than $300.
I like this Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry. I'd have to go with one of those mean looking type C handles but don't know which blade. What are Smatchets like compared to a bowie or kukri? EDMF has some good prices but it's too bad about the 6-7 month wait.
The AK Bowie is a hell of a knife
I have a Cold Steel Laredo Bowie. It is alright.
The Swamp Rat Battle Rat is a hell of a knife for $160.
Heard great things about the Beckers, too.
I also have an old Western M49 Bowie, carbon steel. It was my first Bowie, my father gave it to me. The guard is a little big, but it's a great knife.
The Mineral Mountain Bowies look like great workers. I've wanted one for a while.
