I'm looking to get an SF M1A before this fing state I live in bans them :grumpy:
any info pros and cons would be great.

Thanks

pros: great caliber, very accurate, low recoil.

cons: huge action, very heavy.

i fired an m1a socom a couple years ago. wonderful to shoot, but i would not want to have to carry it any distance.

the newer socom with all the rails just looks plain silly to me.

i really like the scout size.

I've got 2 Socoms. . . . .308 is a great caliber. . . . I sometimes carry one down in Kentucky for deer season as it makes for a great bush gun. . . They are slightly heavy but not really unbearable. . . They offer super reliability in a high cap .308. . . I've got the Sage stock on one of mine and that does add a bunch of weight but is well worth it in my opinion. . .

Very worth it :D

I have 3. full size, scout and socom2. scout is by far my fav. out of the 3

The M1A is as good as it gets in CA these days. I own a scout and love it. As mentioned it is a tad bit heavy. But 30rds in the mag is quite reassuring :D

A guy set up next to me at the last show bought an SA Nat'l Match serial 000258... $3K....

They are nice guns, but mags are pretty pricey AFAIK......

While I like the MA1...I prefer a DSA SA58 over it. :D

Personally I'm waiting on the release of the new Magpul Massoud. Planning on buying the Massoud and the now licensed Bushmaster ACR (Magpul Masada) as soon as they are released.

Thanks guys
Yup i like the look of the scout thats the one I'm thinking of getting.

I have the Bush Rifle which is like the Scout but has the flash suppressor instead of the muzzle break. I hate muzzle breaks, they only break my ears and my hearing is more precious than my shoulder. I opted for the 18" barrel instead of the SOCOM's 16" barrel too. Here it is with my ZTBM:

Hard to beat a proven winner but they are really pricey these days. Like everyone says, they are heavy. No regrets though!

I aquired 3 of these 15 to 20 years ago, they were inexpensive and great shooters for local game, had no idea they have appreciated so much, time to dig them out again!

A Super Match here...I can shoot 3 shot group you can cover with a dime at 100 yards with open sites...

Great gun....get one :)

Weight? You guys are complaining about weight? Sheesh. For a battle rifle, it is not heavy by any means. The latest generation has been spoiled by the M16 and M4. The only problem that I have with the M1A is that magazines are ridiculously expensive and living in Kalifornia you are limited to 10rnd mags.

Reliable, if it's too heavy go to the gym more, generally pretty accurate and the .308 is a great all around round. You'd be gtg with it.

I have several including a Whitefeather I showed off after christmas the best all around for me is the SOCOM 16 because it is alot lighter that the Socom II and is easy to move with but for long range shooting I would go with the M1A Loaded and make damn sure you season the barrell that will make it or you will want to break it.

That is a nice one. The scout is pretty much the same thing with the addition of a picatinny mount for a intermediate eye relief scope.

Here's a photo of my SA M1A.

It's scout length with a heavy barrel and set up in a McMillan camo stock.

100% factory and, in Busse terms, a variant.

I need to get a scope on it and get it to the range this spring.
