I'm neither a Steve nor a Mike but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. I've read that the 7.62x25mm was tested alongside the .45 ACP and 9mm way back when; it was found to perform well when striking bone (which tended to fragment), less so if it didn't. Whether those infamous tests actually took place or not is another matter of course. I'd expect that the Russians would've stuck with it had it been a stellar performer.

Something besides jacketed ball ammunition would probably do better. I'd bet that a reloader could have some fun with this but my plate's already full and I'm unwilling to take on yet another cartridge. (And a bottlenecked pistol cartridge, at that.)
