Body tattoos are an acquired taste. In Japan, they may just give the authorities the wrong impression about your persuasions.

Elsewhere, you may just be a sight for sore eyes! :D

oh yeah, some of the ladies' work is amazing.
Most Japanese tattooists do two kinds of work:
1. traditional stuff for the artistic types
2. comic book stuff for the kids

I consider myself to be in the first group and I love the elegant pieces, they look more like paintings than tattoos.

but ancient european tattoos were a bit different as far as artistry. I used danish bronze-age rock carvings as the insporation for a few of my tattoos. You must understand that the avg 5 year-old could produce about the same thing on paper today, but im an iconographic kinda guy.

Most danish rock carvings fo stick fogures, boats, and animals coulda been drawn by one of Bruises ancestry--The Danish rock doodlers?

meaning and art have no rules.

those "simple" designs may have represented God!

you just never know.

OK, I've already said I'm not into this, but Danny, that last woman in B&W looks like she fell asleep on a wet newspaper. It might look better in color, and up close, but in that pic it looks as though someone used her back as a memo board.

I don't think I would object too much to an anklet tat, or a small thumbnail in a "surprising" place. But, I really can't get into the mural/billboard look.

(Follows, a tongue in cheek rant against ink.) ;)
Tattoos are a gateway body modification! First its a dicreet design hidden where the world at large will never see it. Then come the bold, shameless in-your-face depictions of "MOM" or even less savory affiliations! Before long, tattoos aren't enough! The now addicted Bod-modder must get his or her fix and kicks through more drastic modification! Suddenly, holes are appearing in places the Good Lord never intended them to be! The bod-modders create these holes, only to fill them in again with grotesque hardware items. Many of these poor people cannot stand in a stiff breeze without whistling through their various attachments! Soon, all too soon, they run out of places to put more holes, or they can longer move freely because they are impeded by half of their natural body weight in hypo-allergenic metal! Yet they still crave more! Eventually, they cleave their tongues! They tap their skull for screw-in antlers! They sharpen their teeth and flay their genitalia! Where will it end? Oh friends, I beseech you- start not on the path of indelible embellishments! :p

Different holes for different folks?

Ferrous- did I read you post correctly in that you have tatoos of ancient rock paintings? Could you show some of these?

(for what this is worth- that is the first tatoo I've heard about that I actually like)

heehee. Not so, I'm ink only. I wanna be low-drag, no dangly bits past the ones the gods gave me.;)

Also, for decades little girls were piercing their own ears, or going to the mall to get it done. I call that the real gateway to body mod.

Also, I have no desire for the really drastic and socially acceptable body mods, like silicone snoobs (which I like to call 'clown-tits when they're really obnoxiously large, --like clown shoes are overly large...get it?:D), lyposuction, stomach staples, surgically implanted hair, dentures, collagen inflated inner-tube lips, hip/joint implants, etc. These are the "real" gateway body mods.

Munk: I can probably dig up a pic or point you to the source...gimme a few.

You know Ferrous, you're another one who's so smart I wonder why you don't work for the CIA? You're always into something. You keep surprising me with where that brain of yours has wandered. You'd make a great Professor someday, if you're not already.

or the mafia...heehee.

I try not to work for an employer who can own me like that. I got's morals, and don't take orders well. I'm a bit counter-culture, and a tribalist, with antidisestablismentary ideas sometimes. I'm part of the clergy of a polytheistic religion, and I don't quite fit in the 'one nation under god' mold. My model of limited fed gov't doesn't include Gestapo and SS and KGB and Church police like they ran outta Kabul (using religion as a political tool). I don't believe in feeding folks fear to control them, which is what the gov't spin docs do.

My model of freedom means as few shackles as possible, and as long as they think I'm the normal taxpayer, that's good.

That being said, I did conisder such a job outta college when I had more 'grey' areas and certain moral flexibilities.;):D

Who knows? In a lot of ways, Ferrous is a 60's liberal, whether he knows it or not. A lot of his appeal to freedom sounds hackneed to my ears, but I have very old ears that have heard a lot of of hippies. Some say my own hackneed ears once belonged to a hippie, but were violently ripped off.

Oh, almost forgot- the reason I came to this thread was because of the girls. The tattos highlight the shapes. I don't know if I care about the tatoos.

Maybe Danny will post the pic of the Redneck Tattoo I sent him later today when he gets online?
Y'all will absolutely Love it, I guarantee.:D  :p ;)
