Okay! So I sold my Glock model 27 with lasermax internal sights. I now have 500.00 burning a hole in my pocket. I need a concealed carry gun. Must be Light and small, but I'd like it to have some type of safety. I'm very fond of .45 acp as a defense ammo, but the guns it comes in tend to be bulky and/or heavy. I'm really not stuck on .45 at all. I believe in the idea that a .22 that you carry is better than the .454 you leave at home.

Any advice is very much appreciated!!!!!!

If I may ask...why did you get rid of the Glock? A good 1911 .45 style pistol that's light to carry would be the "Kimber" Ultra or Ultra CDP. You could probably pick up an "Ultra for around $500.

Ummm, you just sold a damn good one ?? The safety is the same as a revolver, inside your head. I guess if you didn't like it, then a Glock 36 or 37 is out too.

Ultra-small 1911 is a possibility (i.e. Para-Ord P10) but still likely to be heavy. Maybe one of the small Taurus .45s. Lots of gab about the Keltecs and such but I've never paid attention to such small pistols, as a Glock 29 does me well in the pocket in the summer. I also believe you can go too small and get something you can't shoot well. It's supposed to be comforting, not comfortable.
(sorry, no help here I guess)

It's not real light and small, but my CCW EDC gun is a Browning Hi-Power in .40 S&W. I'm a skinny person, yet the BHP conceals well. It conceals just as well as the 1911 Commander I used to have. But then I'm kinda partial to blued steel for my guns.

Spend $225 on a Model 60 S&W. Maybe even a Chief's Special. Works fine.

Be safe.

Hi Rob,
You could most likely find yourself a used Kimber in that price range at Kittery Trading Post. I have a Kimber Ultra CDP and I love it. It goes everywhere with me. It is about 24 OZ empty and handles and shoots like a dream. It is costly though. A Kimber Ultra Carry in stainless used would be a nice package, and easily found in that pricerange. Some of the Springfield Armory loaded models are great also. Gunshow time is starting in a month or so and that is a great time to find a nice piece. If you are ever interested in a Kimber, you are welcome to try mine out for feel and such. I had a nice Kahr K-40 for awhile that was nice, but I needed the 1911 back in my life to feel comfortable. Those Kahrs are a great pistol also, but designed like a Glock with no external safetys of any sort. Let us know how you make out. BTW good to see you on the forums. I have missed you!:D

The little Taurus milleinusm have been known to crack frame rails.

I like my EAA compact, but it's not exactly light(don't care, I'd rather have steel frame than plastic)

P226, P228, P229, P245.
Best of the service piece. Glocks are for NYPD.
Sigs are for SEALs
357 Sig and 40 cal interchangeble
Light and EDC
Stainless or Nitron
Pick one up from Sigforum.com classified used and you get HIKV Sig style.
Onpoint firearms have both new and used at very good price.

SIG! :)

Hands down, my favorite...and I've owned/shot many others over the last 20 years...

I have carried a Kimber Compact Aluminum since 97' (I think)...loaded with the Uncle Mike's Sidekick its total weight comes in at 2 lbs .5oz...Im still just to happy with it to consider buying the new Kimber Ultra Carry II....yet

Compact frame five shot revolvers in .44 spl. With proper bullet selection they can be very efficient stoppers. Yeah, they lack the safety but it's very difficult to accidentaly squeeze a round off with a double action pull. I tried getting one myself but the EXALTED STATE of CALIFORNIA requires shakedown or protection money from gunmakers to sell handguns in this blasted state. If you don't pay the ream fees you can't sell. SIMPLE, HUH!!!!!!!! Still pisses me off on that one.

Chiefs special is a good idea.
really good gun.
concealed hammer, 5 or 6 shots of 38 special, never fails.
smallish, powerful, not too expensive.

Stainless Ruger SP-101 in 5 shot .357 all the way!
real compact, super potent, accurate, cheap to shoot w/ .38's
and a tough one to beat outta the box!

jams are non-existent (great when you need it most), & can probably
buy a couple UBBB's to go along w/ it to boot!

I take mine fishing, hiking, etc. and usually forget I've got her w/ me. ;)

Rob,
Model 65 or 66 are good, compact little revolvers, but have no safety, of course. The trigger pull is much longer than a Glocks, though.

Kahrs are also nifty little pistols, and not only are much thinner, but have a nicer (I think) trigger pull than Glocks- still no safety, though.

Makarovs are nice and compact, inexpensive, and built like tanks. They do have safeties, but are only 9x18mm (suggested) or .380. FEG also makes a nice little Walther-lookalike that'll go for about $150 or so.

I'm not sure a guy who had a Glock wants a revolver, but the suggestion of a Ruger Sp101 in 357 is a good one. There are very few situations where you would be underpowered, and you'd have to hike in the Rockies to get there. I've always liked the idea that a car door could be penetrated if neccesary.

Otherwise, I'd look hard at all the subcompact .45's out there.

The denim is to simulate the attacker wearing clothing- you will notice much deeper penetration, due to little or no expansion after clogging with clothing.
