Anyone know of the story behind digital cameras that can also be digital movie cameras?
Well, I guess I'll post a reply to this in particular, as I've done a bit of research in this field.
In my opinion, it's best to either keep the digital photo camera (heceforth called DPC)and the digital video camera (henceforth called DVC). The DPC's generally don't have the memory to take anything more than a couple minutes of video, and the feature is added more as an afterthought than a real feature.
Now on to the DVC's. The DVC's that will take photos as well aren't bad, but in general, they're taking very low resolution pictures, since to play video on a TV you only need to get a maximum resolution of about 640x480(more if it can record in HDTV format).
The only DVC/DPC I have found that gets both good video and photos is a Professional level Canon that costs over $2000. For that price, I can buy a decent Video Camera(with all the bells and whistles I want, like firewire and digital recording) and a nice digital camera and still have enough money left over to get that Kothimoda I'm contemplating.
Basically, as with knives, there is no one Video/photo camera that does it all.
Well, I hope this helps a little.

PS and before you tell me that a Khuk can do it all, try carving a 3" tall chess piece using one.
