Does anyone know any good sites with reviews on digital cameras? Also what features should I be looking for?

I want to learn how to annoy people in mediums other than the written word. :)

If you want to annoy people along with yourself I'll send you my junk (paid $550 for it!!!) DC when I get a new one.

I thought it was you that was annoying the medium at the seance I attended the other night. :p  ;)

http://www.dcresource.com/ seems to do a good job on quite a few cameras. I'm presently using an Olympus 520 - 2.1 Mpixels with 3x optical zoom, and fits in the pocket nicely. It can be had for ~ $165.00 since the 550 3.1 Mpixel came out.

Canon G2, I absolutly love it. Here are some pics I have taken with it...pics

Spend a little extra and get a good camera, you'll be happy you did. The G2 has come down some in price you can find it for about $500. Good luck.

Anyone know of the story behind digital cameras that can also be digital movie cameras? Should the two be mixed? My wife is pushing for one and thinks the thing at Wal mart for 450 (!!?? they throw in a bag of popcorn?) would be just fine. I have doubts.

The G2 can take motion footage and record sound too. The movies really eat up the memory on the card though, so they can only be short clips ~a minute or so, longer if you don't want to take any other photos.

On the highest resolution the standard card can take about 20 photos, on the my photo pages guests can't see the full size pics though :( it's pretty impressive. If you are using the low resolution (still takes great photos) you can take about 120 photos.

I've just begun to follow the links posted graciously by all, but I'm assuming this 'card' then must be downloaded and cleared before new use. Are these cards expensive? Could I have a pocket full of them?
I'll ask better questions in a little while. I'm going to a tech store today, 180 miles away, after I see the Doc.

I've been working on my DC trying to make it last another couple of days. I put a brass shim into a sloppy connection and that seems to have helped a little. As you may recall the DC decided one day that it no longer wanted to trasfer the pix from card to computer so I had to buy a card reader. This reader works sporadically. When it doesn't work I have to unplug from the USB port, replug and it generally will work. Why things work sometimes and not always is a mystery to me. Nothing changes except their willingness to function properly. I'm glad my car doesn't work that way.

Digital camera vs digital camcorder? Opinions? I didn't make it to the tech shop...yeah, I know, I got lost, and did the rest of the shopping and drove home.

.. ....

Bill, I only hope I end up better off than you. My wife wants this for our children, and while Khuks can be called children, it's not the same if there are no childhood photos for one, or if you have to stick a peice of brass or copper in the connection and say halleluha before they'll be visible.

Yvsa: it was Bruise. That's why I didn't stick around.

I didn't want chance spitting coffee through my nose on everyone and leaving people wondering what had happened. How would you like to be getting to the astral plane and have a mouthful of coffee come out of nowhere and hit you? Just common courtesy.

PS: Houdini's tired of taking calls, and has better things to do. You'd be transfered to his answering service and given the brushoff.

It's my karma, Munk, to pay top dollar for electronic stuff that likes to malfunction. My scanner started painting a yellow stripe down the page for no reason. Takes 4 or 5 minutes to get the scanning program fired up. My printer spit out a few parts but still prints once in awhile. But it won't let me cancel a print job. I turn the printer power off to do this but it saves the job and next time I start up there's the job waiting to be printed. I can't get rid of it. By the way, paid $300 for printer and $300 for scanner. They might be worth five bucks each today. My card reader works --sometimes. Camera works sometimes -- shuts off when it feels like it. Sometimes flash comes after the pix is taken. Had the same problems with electric typewriters and word processors.

I'm not far behind. I paid 2700 bucks for a computer several years ago. Today I have a mongrel someone built that doesn't work right.
I bought a hundred dollar printer that stopped working, probably ran out of ink, but the booklet's lost and putting a new cartridge in will have to wait for inspiration.

The 100 dollar printer was the solution to the 300 dollar printer that stopped working, a Cannon that after 3 years was 'obsolete' and they wouldn't talk to me about unless I paid them 25 bucks. I threw that into the dumpster with a certain satisfaction. My old Man's also stopped working and he refuses to ever own another Cannon product as they wouldn't talk to him either.

For now on I buy cheap and wait for the technology to filter downwards.

Well, I guess I'll post a reply to this in particular, as I've done a bit of research in this field.

In my opinion, it's best to either keep the digital photo camera (heceforth called DPC)and the digital video camera (henceforth called DVC). The DPC's generally don't have the memory to take anything more than a couple minutes of video, and the feature is added more as an afterthought than a real feature.

Now on to the DVC's. The DVC's that will take photos as well aren't bad, but in general, they're taking very low resolution pictures, since to play video on a TV you only need to get a maximum resolution of about 640x480(more if it can record in HDTV format).

The only DVC/DPC I have found that gets both good video and photos is a Professional level Canon that costs over $2000. For that price, I can buy a decent Video Camera(with all the bells and whistles I want, like firewire and digital recording) and a nice digital camera and still have enough money left over to get that Kothimoda I'm contemplating.

Basically, as with knives, there is no one Video/photo camera that does it all.

Well, I hope this helps a little.

TC

PS and before you tell me that a Khuk can do it all, try carving a 3" tall chess piece using one. :D ;)
