I received my Godan menkyu today.
I thought I would share it with you guys.
I dont really have many other people to share it with.
A godan menkyu is a fifth degree black belt certificate.
I dont know how I got it, but here it is!!!
Im not fishing for compliments, I just wanted to show you part of the life of a "professional" martial artist.
(That is, I moved to japan, left my family, left my job, left my friends, and I spend all my free time and money studying martial arts with the worlds' greatest living martial arts instructor.)
That piece of paper has cost me more than half as much as my college degree did and taken twice as long to acquire.

My Certificate from Hatsumi Sensei

My hat's off to you, Danny. There are few who would or could do what you've done.

You've followed your passion in life and I say "well done."

Really, I wish I could put it to use, but I am a very slow runner.
The ARMY doesnt want slow runners!

Very impressive. Takes a lot of courage to make that kind of leap of faith.

Congratulations.

I have no plans to teach this.
I came here to learn it, but I have never wanted to teach it.
I just couldnt accept that responsibility.
Besides, I was thinking of going back to school and getting an engineering degree so I can makes some real money for once.

Congratulations Danny!
What exactly is a "professional" martial artist?
Does that mean that you can now make money in those contests on TV where they break concrete blocks with their heads?

I understand how hard it is to express just how you feel, however there are those that know.
I want to wish all the best for you

congratulations!

How does that saying go? "It's the journey, not the destination."

Enjoy your path.:)

Nice job, Danny, I'm sure both the mental and physical skills and discipline you have had to learn and use will serve you well in any other pursuit, academic or career wise.

Congrats Danny....
certainly a job well done and
a certificate well deserved!!

I can only recall how my son felt when he earned his BB in Akido. I know how great he felt. Congratulations.

Danny,

Congratulations again. Menkyo...

Menkyo means you've mastered all the basics, neh? Next stop, Menkyo kaiden...

If you decide to relocate to rural Georgia, I need an instructor.
