ot: fifth degree

I am very glad to have so many congratulations.
Not many of my firends and family are interested in this stuff, so, I guess I needed some support and reassurance from somewhere.

I really do appreciate it.

rural georgia ? let me think about that one....

We dont fight, we survive.
It is an inexplicable thing.
I wish it were not.

No I do not eat raw fish. The novelty of sashimi wore off quickly during my first bout of salmonella.

Congrats!

Is there a Rokudan around the corner, then?

"I have no plans to teach this. I came here to learn it, but I have never wanted to teach it. I just couldn't accept that responsibility."

-- Your sensei may see things differently. Very few are initiated to high levels in the hopes that they will carry on the tradition of the schools. This is not just the old way.

I recommend a book called "Kodo: Ancient Ways" by Kensho Furuya. Talks much of teacher-student relations in MA, and other stuff.

Money never made anyone happy, not a true and self-actuated happy, anyway.

Near Augusta, Danny.

Close enough for you to train with Bud a couple times a month. No local kobudo, as far as I can tell.

Danny, I'd be careful with that certificate. Ninjas have been known to use invisible ink. You might want to look at that document again in a few days.
:D :D

Awesome job. I can appreciate the concentration and mental skills that go with it...albeit on a much, much, much lower level..I have to agree with the student-teacher relationship. You never know what you can teach until you've tried. And not every teacher will connect with every student, but there is always someone that will come into your path that you will be able to pass on your great learning to. To not pass it on is almost....well.....sacreligious.

Congratulations!!

By the way Phoenix has some great universities. :D

That's enough to make you a standout even in this forum. ( Meant in the nicest way of course ), and if you believe that I have a terrific deal for you on a bridge over in Brooklyn. :D :D :D

Way to go Danny! Dream about a goal, be decisive, stick with it and make it happen! You did it all. Forget the $. You have gained / grown into something now that will stay with you forever!

My hat is off to you!

Looked it up on the web, looks like a cool system of Budo from different Ko-Ryus not one of those goofy mail-order ninja dudes :)

Congratulations fellow yudansha! I am very aware of the sacrifice and discipline you have put forth to achieve this. Best of luck in your future training.

Actually I think you should research a bit further.
Koryu is a very narrow community! And many of us know each other. Mr Hatsumi's credentials have been accepted by some and roundly rejected by others. You may be surprised at just who-considers-what "a goofy Ninja dude."
Anyway, this is not to discredit skills but just their origins. Mr. Hatsumi and Mr. Tanamura both claim to teach a myriad of Koryu (including supposed Ninja arts)through their orginizations (Bujinkan and Genbukan repsectively) Which in and of itself is highly controversial as the Japanese Koryu community does not recognize any school as a "Ninja" school. As such there is much debate and lack of recognition by many in the Koryu community.
Again, as I am sure this will fall on deaf ears.
_This has nothing to do with skill or lack thereof. Just origins._

Were you to venture out and bring these names up in casual converstaion during Koryu enbu-you may not get the response you expect. And were you to visit martial arts forums such E-budo and Swordforum as well as the few closed and private Koryu forums, their names have been a source of grand debate for years...Recommended research may begin there as you can read responses from Menkyo (not menky(u) Danny) Kaidens, and various inka holders from legitimate Koryu regarding this topic of the Bujinkan and Genbukan.
There are respectible men -and some good martial artists -in these organizations who get along with the detractors and can debate the topic without angst, anger, or ire. We're brothers in the disagreement due to...............sweat. In fact E-budo is owned by a Genbukan member who has himself participated in the grand Ninja Debate.

Anyway enough with the preamble, Congrats Danny on the study and time in. I would be a little more cautious about how or what you say-on the web -your choice or call though-not mine.
Here is an example. Most of those reading don't know squat about Koryu and are not involved- then....... surprises come from unknown areas! As in the arts- you just never know.
Would Hatsumi Sensei appreciate you calling him the "Finest martial artist in the world" in a public forum with other Koryu people reading it. Koryu people are usually much more circumspect about such things in public-even among the students of those who have sterling reputations and are considered by the Japanese Koryu community themselves to be among the best in the world-there is an understanding of who's who and most of these people prefer NOT being a strong presence on the internet.
Anyway I am sure you know of the controversy, but who cares-as I said sweat is sweat. Its what we can or cannot do with what we have been given.

cheers
Dan
