Hi Gang. There seems to be an interest in friction folders as of lately. Are any of you HOGS going to get one? I am. I like the simple design and the idea that I am the LOCK. :D

Hey,

Here's mine:

It's my EDC since last fall  The bottle opener is very handy :D

That's one of the nicest frickies I've ever seen!
Who made it and that for the pix D!

What I don't understand is, why buy such a knife when you can have one with a lock? (apart from legal reasons)
I just don't see the use. There's a reason they invented locks on folders.

I don't get it either. Some of them are awfully cool looking ($nody) but short of one being made in INFI, I don't think I'll bight.

Thanks for the pic JJ.
Check out the frickies by American Kami and Filip DeLeeuw. There are some really nice ones out there.
Remember... YOU are the Lock! ;)

Im not a fan of folders at all in general, friction or lock. I prefer a small fixed blade for EDC. Im in the same boat as 230...if it can be broken it usually gets broken. :(

Very simple answer. For "basic" cutting, a FF is all you need.
Of course. But if there is nothing against a folder with a lock, why get one without? There are disadvantages to not having one, none to having one.

Sorry, but that is just silly. Everything can be broken, even an FFFBM. But even most folders don't get broken. And if they do, the fault is usually the user's.

Philly--- I like the simplicity behind the frickie design too. It's the same reason I like the chisel grind. For me, it boils down to what I like and how I'm going to use the knife(s).

Well obviously a folder is easier to break than a mistress. I myself, am too hard on even the "best" folders...the right knife for the job is what I have with me...no matter what that job is...so no its not silly that I prefer fixed blades to folders...and If Lycosa prefers a friction for basic use, whats silly about that? Everyone has preferences and choices. ;)

.

I have a Scotch Dispenser (well, what is left of it) that I was going to add a longer handle to but it didn't work out. So, I cut it down for a folder, but the big finger loop made that not work out (the detent ball on the lock bar wouldn't have had a surface on the blade to ride on), so, it has been sitting there for another project to come along. I have been thinking of making a friction folder out of it, I was also thinking of adding an internal stop pin. I will try and come up with something for the Blade Show.

The 'silly' comment was directed at the 'if it can break, it will' comment. Since everything CAN break, according to that statement, everything will. Now I don't wanna take that too literally, but you know what I mean.

I've used folders way beyond their intended use. Never had one break on me yet. Of course, ymmv. And I would never dispute anyone right to choose whatever they wanna use.
