OT: Gear and Tools Used by SURVIVORS!

Good eye Squarebox86!
How are you liking that pack so far Silver? Are there plenty of storage spots?

I really like it! I'll see if I can get some good pics later, but there's a small pocket behind the patches and then one big main compartment. You can buy another tail to help divide up the one big area or use the tail that is included.

I guess this qualifies for this thread...

I have made a purchase that has put the brakes on my knife buying for a few years...

Its a G3 1548 DK. Running a 40/30 Yamaha Jet motor so I dont bust it up on the rocks in the Potomac river. The crazy thing is the monthly payment is less than my cell phone bill! Cant wait to get that motor broken in. I will be using it for the december/january duck season and then fishing from it spring/summer/fall.

That's a really nice boat Riz! I like the mossy oak patterns.

Can't beat those Yamaha outboards. We had a 115hp on the back of our boat which lasted just over a decade and it never had a major issue!!

I've purchased really high quality English Flint at Neolithics Flint Knapping Supply House at a very good price:

I also love the Bushcraft Essentials fire piston:

This is an unpowered ice box I bought a few weeks ago. It has 2.75in thick walls and dual refrigerator seals, but only cost AUD $220 (US $163) :D

I placed a water container of solid ice inside it on Tuesday evening and there's still alot of ice that hasn't melted yet, even though we've had some hot days here!! Yesterday was almost 100degF which is good weather to put this thing to the test.

I'd recommend a good slingshot for your kit as well; here are a fews pics of the baby handmade for me for Christmas and now on a slow boat from Hungary...

That thing looks like a beast! Its actually amazing how accurate one can become with a good slingshot if the ammo is consistent. I have the standard marksman brand slingshot and found tye .32" lead balls were ideal for it. I had a box that I purchased for my black poweder pistol which were like .003 too small and they wouldnt seat in the cylinders. They ended up being perfect for the slingshot. I could hit soda cans every shot out to 20 yards. I killed a dove sitting on a branch during dove season with it. Surprised the heck out of me.

Yea, I love shooting slingshots... I use an assortment of ammo; like you mention, lead balls, marbles from the dollar store, ball bearings bought in bulk. I have small slingshots designed to shot BB's. Of course, I use a catch box to reuse much of my practice shots.

Speaking of hunting with a slingshot... my daughters are going in together to get dad a slingbow for Christmas! :D

LOVE IT!!!!!! Does this mean you've burned up one of the 2 best days of your boating life??

Is that the galvanized trailer?

I've heard great things about these coolers. Nice purchase!!

OBX,

Yes! The day I bought it is now gone...

Yes that is a galvanized trailer.

Until you get your second day enjoy the nicest jon boat I've ever seen. Who's heard of a 30+mph jon boat with an ice breaker on it??

I take it you read up on the model I bought? I wanted a boat I can hunt ducks from in the fall/winter and then fish from in the spring, summer and fall. I did a ton of research before I bought. This joker fit every one of my requirements. I wish they made it a foot longer and a foot wider all around but it will be perfect for what I do on the river. I am not sure it will get 30mph though. Jet motors are a little less speedy when directly compared to a prop of the same horsepower. You sacrifice some speed for the ability to run shallower water.

Ya you're going to be way happier with that jet. Definitely the right choice for a rig like that.

Didn't you know it's standard for EVERY boat owner to want 2 more feet!! Yeah, I read about it and I was very impressed. One of the videos claimed 30+ mph with that motor WOT. Who knows if it can you probably don't need that much speed on the Potomac where you are, but it looks good running in other videos.

You'll be pleased with that cooler !! My Yetis have 2" thick walls and one seal .and they keep things very cool .Keeping red deer , up to 350 lbs , cool is very welcome . I don't use bags of ice as they always break. Instead I freeze water in 1 quart plastic bottles and put one in each corner at least .

Im not totally sure yet how I am gonna hunt from it. I would like to build some sort of pop blind for it. I took it out on its maiden voyage yesterday. Got the motor through low RPM break in stage and half way through the midrange stage. Thursday I may gake it out and try to get into the final rpm stage as well as scout an island in the river for some hunting locations.

I knocked the new off of it pretty quick too. Whats a jet powered aluminum river boat without scuffs, scratches and dents from hitting rocks ??!!

It really made me cringe but oh well.
