OT: Gmail

Since it's free, I reckon you can try it out. If you get lotzza spam, you can abandon it.

Unless you want spam. In which case I would be more than willing to send some.

My country has awarded you seven million kabookies. Send me your account numbers so I can make the deposit. :) Since I am president and dictator for life, I will personally oversee the transfer (for a nominal fee of course).

I don't have Gmail. I'm ok with Yahoo and don't need the storage space. By signing up for these mega accounts are you giving permission for the administrators of these sites to go through your mail? I heard that somewhere.

I probably put a few of them guys to sleep.

I got one of the invites from Josh a few days ago and so far I haven't received any spam.

So far so good, it seems to work fine.:)

I'm one of the forum visitors that Josh was nice enough to share with. The onyl spam I've gotten is from my sister. She likes Spam though, I'll send her addy to anyone that wants to spam.

Spam is good.

But only fried and with Ketchup. Mayo isn't a bad condiment either...

Yes and no. Gmail shows ads which are related to the content of your emails, but those are scanned and selected by a computer, never by a human.

That being said, Google (like all other free email providers... don't kid yourself that Yahoo or Hotmail aren't the same) will disclose your personal information and emails if they are instructed by the gov't to do so, or if they just feel like it. Their TOS gives them the right to do so.

There has been some speculation that Google's long-term cookies (expiring in 2038, IIRC), the fact that they keep a record of every search you do, and the sheer quality of their search tool all indicate some connection with the government. Makes you think twice about running a search for an article like "child porn terrorists plot to kill Bush." :)

Just getting into it after 6 days. I finally figured out how to import my contacts today so now I have my address list there. I'm saving one invitation for one of my grandsons and one for a granddaughter, if they want them. We'll see. Is there any way to make the Gmail your primary email server such as Outlook or Outlook Express?

I have some invites if anyone wants one.

I like it also. Since it is web-based and not POP3 based, it can easily be checked from any computer when you are away from home.
