Studies have shown that within 15 feet or so a knife is actually faster than a gun to get into action. A khuk is a wonderful defense tool because once it starts it's swing, there is very little that can stop it. Lot's of people get stabbed while holding a gun on a BG they thought harmless.
The advice on this forum, to go to a safe room and call authorities is of course very good. There are decisions we make and live with. I don't think the idea 'never' go investigating is quite right. I've taken some risks but considered them valid at the time. I rely upon my intuition a great deal.
