Does anyone know if you want to put in cinder block walls, on your property if you have to ask your neighbors permission, or should one just build it on their side of property directly, and leave the wooden one up?

Last Tuesday was my birthday, was amped up over it, alot of celebrating. Alot of fun. The works, cake, gifts, yada yada.

Than on Thursday one of my twin puppies gets sick. Still a baby, I was concerned to find out asap what was wrong, so took to 24 hour emergency pet hospital. Shortly after, she became unresponsive, and they had to put her down. I was so stricken with grief, cause she was just a puppy, new to the world....

Anyways, after they did their thing, they found she was poisoned, on sat morning, her twin, the last of the two; became sick. throwing up, not drinking water, not eating. I rushed her to hospital, they pumped her stomach, and she was given other meds and liquids, I don't know what. And shes been ok. Later a friend surprised me, saying he'd fly me to tx, and we'd watch the pacman fight. Reluctantly, I went, my mother and sisters saying they'd take care of my puppy. Saying I need to get out. Fight was awesome btw. Those Cowboy Cheerleaders, can sing! God they are beautiful too ;)

Came back the next morning, my uncle and dad had gotten into a fight with the neighbor, my uncle who just woke up said he was outside to pick a few limes, said someone threw stuff over the fence, on inspection my dad and his security guy, found it was rat poison.

Long story short, security guy held my dad and uncle back, police came, said it could've came from anywhere, but tablet of the rat poison matches poison removed from my surviving puppy.

Anyways, I want to raise fence level HIGH. Was wondering if anyone knew if its alright to just build on my side, against the wooden fence, but make it HIGH.

I am really pissed, but I am tired of this bs. And would like privacy too, weirdo likes to peek through fence cracks. Stare at girls I do photo shoots with, as well my own mrs', creepy psycho f*ck. Pardon my french.

Any other measure anyone suggest I do? I am installing cameras later today or tomorrow, around property to catch him if he throws stuff again....

What a crappy end to a bday week. :/
Hope everyone had a better weekend than me.

Given the circumstances, unless it is against home owners (if you have any), I dont think it would be an issue. Would start with pressing charges though... I hate it when people harm other's pets. Should pump some drano and rat poison down their stomach.

If someone killed my dog I would kill them back. There is no need to have that kind of person in this world.

Highly doubt you can start building CMU walls in CA without building permits from the city and or engineering. CMU (concrete masonry unit) is a structural component and definitely needs to be done correctly.

Very sorry about your puppy. This is a city building issue, any responses here are just speculation.

I know how you feel but I doubt you would go to prison or get the death penalty for a dog. I'd definitely get police involved further and start the proceedings for pressing charges. Destruction of property, cruelty to animals to start with.

LittleSpartan, if you have a college close to you, I would call their legal department, most have 3rd or 4th year law students that you can talk to. If not, I would call Legal Aid & ask them what your recourses are before you do anything. I have been in a similar situation but of a different matter, & it was very hard to keep from going over & kicking their front door in & taking matters into my own hands. Follow your head, not your heart, & make sure you do nothing than can come back on you. Good luck.
Be safe.
p.s.: BTW, it nothing works, I say nuke his a%! . . . :)

I would definitely stop by city hall and check the building regulations for such a project. In my own experience with @#$hole neighbors they won't hesitate to call the city and report you if you build something without the proper permits or whatever which can lead to hefty fines. Real sorry to hear about your pup, I just don't understand a person that would do such a thing

He likes to spy on you and women you have over? This sounds like the beginning of something more serious. Camera's can be used after the fact but what happens before hand cannot be taken back.

Invite him over for drinks......and then discuss the matter with him.

My dog is my family, I would take it personal.

Little Spartan,

Sorry to hear about this man. That's a really sad situation. As has already been mentioned definitely check on building codes/requirements if you are adamant about making the wall.

Partisan mentioned having him over. I would not personally have this individual/s into my house. I've had complete strangers live with me in the past, but a person who acts like this has already earned my distrust. They don't need to be able to case the place. If you really think they are eying up the ladies you have over there, don't help them plan a home invasion, know where you valuables are, or know your security measures. Though discussing the matter with them sounds like a good idea. If you have them over, invite them to dinner in the back yard or patio or something like that.

Again, I'm really sorry to hear about the situation.

God bless,
Adam

First off I would file charges against your neighbor and hopefully you saved the pill that came out of your dog and the one that was on the lawn. That way it's documented on the record with the police. In CA building a concrete wall would all have to be done to code and cost a fortune, if you didn't do it that way your POS neighbor could rat you out and then you'd be in trouble. I would keep your original wood fence up, but build another wooden fence right behind it, just taller! When you do it you stagger the planks so the seams overlap then they can stick their eye balls up to cracks in the fence all they want but they won't see a thing but the other board right behind it. Just call the city building inspector and ask what the legal height limit is for a wooden fence in the city that you live in. Lastly if you have the money invest in a night vision capable security camera that records to a hard drive or tape, then mount it on your roof so it catches the whole fence line. That way if something does happen again you will have evidence against him.

Check local building codes...yeah.

best thing that came out of Mike Vick thing....(except he went to prison, not long enough IMO)...was that many states and counties passed laws making it an "official crime" to hurt an animal.

Sounds like you've got enough there to make a case. Ya got the $ for the wall...I'd spend the $ for hard-ass lawyer - make this neighbor pay for defense and maybe even a big fine and your lawyer.

(ok...then there's just the "leaky gas line" method of getting even... :) )

My wife tells me I have no people skills but can manipulate people in my favor. The invitation to the house would assist in future actions directed against the perp. I prefer the pre-emanate strike over just reacting.

Sorry to hear about your Puppy. Before my Dog died he was family too me. I still think about him every day. Camera's are a good idea in case the slim bags do it again. Also when your dog goes out you go out and keep a close eye on your dog. If that happened here in NC and Me or some in my Family saw it happen lets just say it would be handled. ;):D

sorry to hear about your pup. :( best wishes for the remaining one.

it's be really hard to build a wall high enough to keep some sick f**k like your neighbor from trowing more poison over. build it 20' high and it's would still be no problem to toss a pellet over.

fences on the property line are considered "community property" and normally each property owner shares in the cost of building or maintaining it. if it's on one side or the other of the line, then it's that owner's responsibility.

sooo, unless there's some municipal code against it, you could, at least in theory build a mega fence on your property and you wouldn't need the neighbor's permission.

fences are not always on the property lines. mistakes get made.

here in the desert, wood fences don't last long and cinderblock fences are the norm.

If someone killed my dog I would kill them back. There is no need to have that kind of person in this world.

this is kinda like an 'eye for a finger nail', I fear if you value human life to that of an animal then its a matter of time before you do kill someone.Perhaps you should venture into "many" countries where the dog is a delicatessen, or simply a way to survive...

OP: sorry to hear about your dog, very sad indeed.. Makes one want to do harm for sure.. In most counties in socal you have to make the wall or fence appear aesthetically pleasing on both sides (both sides the same). Before building a wall though you'll need a permit (anything over 3'), simply make a plat of your property and take it to the county, also since your neighbors are SKUM I'd suggest a surveyor come out to verify property line..

Good luck !!

Ok guys, update:

1-So I was leery of doing property add ons, because as some said, I may or do need a permit. Its confirmed, such a thing isn't like building a fire pit, or bbq grilling station. I need a permit, but isn't expensive. If I have a contractor do the work, they apply for it before beginning work I was told by a gentleman I am thinking of having it done by.

2-Officer this morning called me, after running by nearby home depot and ace hardware, he got a hit on my neighbor buying the rat poison, box is clear as day in his possession. He self check outs, and they knocked on his door earlier in the morning, they asked if they could check out the fence in the back, so they did, and in his tool shed, they found because door was open, the box of rat poison, they will have it compared, I am sure its the same stuff. So are they. Officer told me, afterwards, he will call me, to let me know my options.

3-Peeved, cause this is not the crap I want to deal with, now; or having to experience my small puppy die on my bday week, and before I was supposed to start celebrating it.

I wouldn't invite him over, hes a douche bag. Talked to home association though, 2 big wigs sitting in; and they don't like the guy. He turned on his sprinklers on kids during halloween. He never cuts his grass, hes shadey. Association and officers suggested for the fences I put in plywood on my side, so I already got a few huge pieces from Home Depot to mount to that entire side of fence. After, just going to paint my side baige to match everything else. Photography is a big source of income for me atm, besides automotive projects, and I take it seriously. As well their privacy and comfort levels. So its the least I could do. House will soon be mine mine, since I am trading off with my old man for it. So might as well do the best I can with it atm.

The surviving puppy is so so right now. Eating rice and chicken breast, just bland foods? Lots of pedialite and such. The kids and Mrs' are wanting to head out later today to look for another dog, I dunno if I really want one right now. But may be good to just look. I really want this guy to get screwed over by the law to full extent, cause my pup never did anything, doesn't bark really, or dig holes. just liked to trot around and smell stuff. Explore. She didn't even have a christmas yet. And her surviving twin is quiet now, and doesn't play with the other dogs. But eh, to feel better, been looking at stuff I want to buy, planning a friends welcome home party from army, trying to keep busy. My dogs are like adopted kids, not born from you, but you love them unconditionally so much. :(

Thanks again everyone for the input and for caring, this has been really hard for me. Are associations allowed to push a home owner out? If justified? Just curious. I am going to ask this later as well. Hope everyone has a good day today!

I have a home in CO, I moved alot of my stuff too, but work is out here in CA for the time being, I was already in talks with my dad to buy this house from him. Well not buy, but trade 4-5 of my cars, for the property.

Mrs' has home in SF cause where she is working too. But so cal is where alot of my work comes from. I build alot of cars, bikes, trucks for private collections. As well maintain fleets/collections. Finished school early, so trying to just work as much as I can and save save save. In this economy, its good I know.

If I didn't like the house as much as I do, I would though.
