I'm sure it makes sense. I AM sure. Sure, I am, said Sam.

If you enlarge the images, you may note that the camo pattern is pixelated.

The shoulder pockets are gonna cause problems, I just KNOW it. And maybe the cuff pockets as well. Chaffing, hanging up on stuff, and ripping and losing equipment, foodstuffs, whatever.

I hope it is a wonderful improvement. I reallly do. But I'm thinking some colonel/major/general got together to create an elevator to move up the ranks.

Currently looking for inexpensive BDUs with 34 in waist. Maybe next year?

The ninja utility belts eith the velcro closure on the pockets always cracked me up. KRRRRRRRRRECH! WHAT WAS THAT? Either ninja or Army Ranger. Not the best stealth choice.

I've seen this one. To me it looks like a JBT uniform that a NWO soldier would wear. I just hope that I retire before I'm issued these. (JBT=JackBooted Thug, NWO=New World Order) And, BTW most soldiers in my unit hate the beret. It has no bill to shade your eyes, and keep the rain off your face.

The shoulder and ankle pockets actually are going to be major improvements. Keep in mind that today's soldiers wear body armor all of the time in the field; all of the pockets except the cargos on the pants are covered up by the body armor. The shoulder pockets were put on because spec ops and infantry guys were sewing them on themselves. Now about the velcro; I REALLY hope that this is changed before it becomes official issue. Other than that it looks pretty good. I'm glad they did away with shiny boots too. And Seebee, I couldn't agree more about the beret. I haven't met anyone yet besides the former Sergeant Major of the Army who thought it was a good idea, and I think he was just sticking up for his Chief of Staff (GEN Shinseki).

It reminds me of the Stargate episode were O'Neill was sent as the military expert to a Hollywood Sci-Fi series. This is the uniform those guys wore.

What was that noise?!?!

IT musta been one of them, velcro ninja bears...

(I mean hook and loop ninja bears)

The velcro is a terrible idea.
As for the pixelated camo, the Marines had it, so the Army needs it now :)

I like Mossy Oak Breakup camo better. :D

Velcro is a BAD idea. WHAT were they thinking?

The beret is another BAD idea. Besides pissin the Rangers off, it is not functional. An old Viet Nam style boonie hat would be preferable to me. Keeps rain and sun away.

Would you believe that I was issued one of those (in desert camo, we wear the desert uniforms all the time in my unit) on my arrival to FT Gordon and am not permitted to wear it? Some of the things the Army does make my blood boil.

Am I the only one who thinks that having velcro on your combat uniform is a bad idea?
No.:grumpy:
The people who design these things never think. Put their asses out in the elements for a while in a stealthy situation and see how fast things would change for the better.:D

Not only is the velcro a poor tactical option, but the tabs and insignia wouldn't survive the wearer's first low-crawl. How is it going to save the soldier money when he's constantly having to buy new to replace field losses?

I was a straight-leg grunt before the days of the beret, but my little brother was a Ranger. He did not appreciate the change.

As for not being allowed to wear the uniform that works (such as boonies)- my guard unit went to Alaska for training, and we were not allowed to bring any of our arctic issue, because the brass was afraid we would lose it. After some frost-bit ears and trench foot cases, they allowed us to buy NAVY watch caps and cut the lengths of our patrols. The Army does indeed promote to incompetence.

The logic for the velcro patches is to sterilize the uniform before going to the field. Look for this to be a new SOP. The new uniform was designed by NCOs who were looking for improvements. Yes, the velcro is noisy but overall this uniform is an improvement.

When I worked in Unit Supply, lost and stolen items were a major problem, especially items with civilian demand like field jackets, parkas, flight jackets, and flight coveralls. Sewn or stenciled names helped cut down on theft. Velcro name tags will make it much easier to rip off someone else's property.

Well, I'm not in the military and never have been, so I can only speculate, but I agree that the velcro seems like a bad idea. It's noisy, and it wears out pretty quickly. I'm also wondering how well the zipper is going to hold up. It's pretty easy to sew a button on in the field, but what do you do with a broken zipper? I'm not too keen on the beret either. I like Semp's boonie hat idea for functionality. My wife and I bought a pair of boonie hats over ten years ago, and they are still going strong. Best hat I have ever owned.

-Just like anything else that's MIL-SPEC. Gotta take the good with the bad. -The vlecro ID tabs may work as long as there is a sanitation SOP.
-The zipper? Doesn't stand a chance...just means soldiers will learn how to repair and replace zippers. The British Royal Navy uses a zipper on theirs, as well as the centered rank insignia, only theirs is buttoned.
-The digitized pattern is the best thing since sliced bread.
-The shoulder pockets, I like. I've sewn them onto all of my field uniforms. The MARPAT uniform has them as well.
-Don't get me started about Berets. They might be great for trips to the PX and commisary, but the only soft hat sutable for the field is a boonie.
-I kinda like the collar. I'd like to try that out myself.
Just my two cents.

What I want to know, is how come everything is camo now?

Why wear a field uniform inside the pentagon?

Or is there only one uniform for everthing now, regardless of rank?

Sorta seems similar to all the police suddenly wanting to look like they are on a SWAT mission.

Because it's a lot easier to throw on some BDU's than get your uniform from the cleaners, make sure all your ribbons are in good shape, get everything on straight, and heaven forbid...scuff up your new Corfams. It's called being lazy.
As far as the pentagon wearing them. It must be for show. Most of the DC corridor is required to wear dress uniforms at all times.

Looks a little like a tie dye shirt. Durn hippie camo.

I've seen other patterns that look a little better.

is it easier/cheaper to use the pixelated pattern or is it just be cool and Cyberpunk-ish? I know it can't be more functional than "analog" patterns...
