We need to lighten it up a little, so I wanted to share a very joyous experience with everyone.

I've had the energy of a sloth lately so last night, I drug myself to the gym to do a little running on the treadmill. I didn't have much dinner, so I came home and was looking for a snack. Refrigerator...nothin'. Cubbards.....nothin'
Kitchen counter...nothin'. Then, as if a beam of light came down from the sky, I spotted them. 2 kids and a Sam's club membership and whatdayahave?
Industrial Size boxes of kids cereal! Oh man, Capt. Crunch, Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks, Fruity Pebbles, Reese's Puffs, and Honeycombs! I gorged on all of them! I haven't been that happy since growing up on my grandmother's farm having a bowl of sugar cereal in the morning! And the best part, I refuse to feel guilty.... Yes, you can occasionally have junk food cereal and enjoy it.

Isn't kid's cereal the best? Munk's right, it still wasn't as good as it was at Grandma's house, but what the heck.

I remember that stuff. Never really filled me up and I'd be hungry by 10:00. I could use a bowl of Frankenberries right about now. Or maybe just a bowl of those pink marshmellows. :D

I agree totally, Bruise! but i'd have to say that Count Chocula is my cereal vice. Thanks for the lighthearted thread, LR. Great break from the heavy stuff:) good luck with your sugar high. i'm glad i wont be around when you crash when that amount of sucrose wears off;)

Count Chocula never really tasted like "choculate". As I remember it had a more cocoa like taste that I didn't like. Sort of the same as Ovaltine. :barf: I never understood how people made money making beverages made from sawdust.

What exactly was Tang? Was it an orange colored drink made entirely from chemicals? The astronauts drank it so I suppose it was some form of coolant.

I think it's what they use in light sticks now....... :D

We loved Tang when I was a kid, though we couldn't afford much of it. Mom wasn't crazy about it either- she could read the label and knew it wasn't as healthy as real juice. Back then there weren't as many choices as you have today. When they 'invented' Cocoa Pebbles that was a big deal. We had corn flakes and wheatie type stuff, rice crispies, Shredded Wheat and Cherios.... The companies starting splashing sugar over everything, a revolution, only it cost more and was worse for you.

A lot of you here are in the Pop Tart generation.

Back then a cared more about the toy that came inside the cereal box than the cereal itself. :D :D :D

Y'know, I was born in the Summer of '69... no wonder I turned out different. ha.

Let me tell ya' ... Cocoa Crispies has nothing on the new Reese's Puffs.
woo hoo!

Lion's Roar

Sounds like you're still trippin on the sugar binge ;) Have ya' given up using the spoon & a bowl and just gone to dumping the contents of the box straight into the mouth? :)

I was not a normal kid. I hate marshmallows. I hate cereals that change the color of the milk. While my siblings were asking Mom for "choclolate-frosted sugar bombs" and the like, I was asking for Total, or GrapeNuts, or Granola. The only kid cereal I could ever enjoy was regular or peanut butter Cap'n Crunch. And only infrequently. I eat healthy in no other meal of the day, but I did and do like the "grown-up" cereals.

I was born in '65, so I'm kinda on the cusp of the generations. Who else remembers some of these cereals?

Freakies
King Vitamin
Grins & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs
Quisp, Quake and Quangeroos
'Nilla Crunch
Buck Wheats

I think I've seen King Vitamin and Quisp in the last ten or twelve years, but I haven't seen the others since I was a kid. If anyone can think of any other "nostalgia" cereals, post 'em! (Not to be confused with "Postum" the grain-based coffee substitute.) ;)

Freakies? You are what you eat, I guess.

Sometimes Uncle Bill sends some store flyers along with the triangular box. It's always interesting to see what products are available in your country. A lot of the stuff is the same but you guys eat some funky stuff over there. :D

The only one I recognize is Buckwheats.

I remember getting my Grandmother to buy a box of CountChocola. The Saturday morning commercials made it a necessary. I also remember that the first bowl was so bad that I thought I would never get to the bottom of the bowl , let alone the bottom of the box. I think my Grandpa let me off the hook after a bit and I was forgiven for getting food that was not being eaten, a big thing for him to let something go to waste. Grandpa saved every thing , and fixed any thing.

Caption crunch had the cool toys with a cereal that I could eat.

McHete--Buck Wheats rule! There has never been a better 'flakes' cereal. My bro and I were so disappointed when we could no longer find them that we took Total and put maple syrup on it!

I didn't mind BooBerry, because if you ate a big bowl, it'd turn yer poo green! :D It's a magical thing when yer a kid.

I'm an eater of Granola meself, and I've gone so far as getting crunchy (the real ones) granola bars and bustin them up in a bowl, pour on the milk.

Had those Reeses puffs, and they are darn close to better thatn Cap'n Crunch Peanut butter.

I also ate a lotta toast and hot tea fer breakfast as a kid, and oatmeal with all sorts of stuff added to it (try a bit of cinnamon and a few scoops of apple sauce--illeally good!) Now ya get packets with the flavor already in there.

Ferrous- I loved me some BuckWheats, too! I can't hold with you on the BooBerry though. :barf:

I have no incentive whatsoever to try the Reese's Puffs. The candy is OK, but I tried the Peanut Butter itself once and thought it was gross.

Applesauce is awesome in oatmeal! So is cinnamon, brown sugar, honey or maple syrup. Can't stand raisins in anything but trail mix or by themselves-keep 'em outta my breakfast! Try making your instant oatmeal with coffee sometime instead of just hot water. Its especially good with a brown sugar/cinnamon variety. An awesome camping breakfast!

I remember when I was in basic at Ft. Benning. On the rare occasions that we got to eat in the mess hall, you could count on seeing forty grown men scrambling and fighting to grab the few boxes of "Frosted Flakes" from the Kellogg's variety pack. When the carnage was over, I'd calmly take my pick of the leftover "Product 19" or "Special K" boxes. :D

I eat oatmeal for breakfast now, usually with raisins and a bit of brown sugar, but I must confess a great fondness for Count Chocula, though the idea itself is probably more appealing than the actual cereal.

Fenryr,

It was like a comedy scene. I would open a box, get a handful, eat it, close the box go to the next one, finish all of them, and get hungry again, and repeat the process. I had about 4 rounds of 5 or 6 cereals, and a glass of milk.

Freakies? Buckwheats? I barely remember those, ranks right up there with black and white Popeye cartoons. :)

David

Co Co Wheats? like cocoa added to cream of wheat.

Had a commercial that always reminded me of _Souul Train!_ fer some reason...mebbe the train in both ads...
