Back ten days ago we still didn't have a pet. Now we have four. The cat we fed always went outside at night. About noon Thursday the 8th the cat let out the loudest mrrrYowr!!! we'd ever heard out of her and had her first kitten at the end of the hall ( doors all closed so she couldn't get back to the spot she'd picked in the master bedroom closet ). She did get under the kid's bed with her first and had the other two.

A little later she got to the closet ( I'd blocked her spot ) and dropped baby one on the closet floor and went back for the others. We gave in and stuck a laundry basket back there with some towels and old blanket. Having got her way mama cat was perfectly content to move her babies into it.

Married 20+ years with no pets, we've been enjoying the hullaballoo mama and kittens have brought us. Very nice cat, good mother. We found out Saturday when we went out of town she was perfectly content to use the sandbox providing there was no-one around to let her out.

Anyway, after all these years we have enjoyed the last 10 days even if we had no intentions of having pets. ( Incidentally, found a discard hardback from the county library with three Heinlein novels in it including " The Door Into Summer " ). Amazing what a purring cat on your lap does for your blood pressure.

We're going to keep 'em, but mama cat is going to have an operation soon as possible. We'll get the kittens given away when the time comes, but no more litters.

Still, life is better for them being around. Though I'd let everyone know there are still simple pleasures from out new Pet and her kittens. Softens the heart. Puts a smile on your face sometimes and a twitch of a grin others. Good company.

The guys who attended the Khon at my house got to meet mine...well, the one that's not still hissing in the triangular box anyway...

I think it was Tom Linton who helped snag one from under the dining room table when we were trying to secure them in the other room. Thanks again Tom!

I'm glad you are content with them...much easier to maintain than a dog in that they come trained (pretty much anyway, all they do is eat, sleep, purr, use the box and yowl to get out anyway).

We have three cats and a dog -- all strays. Betwixt the cats and the dog there is a sort of grudging toleration, punctuated by growls and barks from Ms. Crime Dog (D##$&* cats, running around again! Woof! Woof!!!)

We adopted a stray 12 week old cat last October. He really likes me. Every morning at about 4:30 AM I wake up with a cat laying on my stomach.... I need to sharpen my khukuris.

I've got 3 cats, oldest one is 13, youngest is 3, middle one is 6. Oldest was gotten at the pound, and the other 2 were strays. As I live alone, they are all that keeps me sane some days. Other days, they drive me nuts! But I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Kenny Runion of the Foxfire Books says that cat skins make good banjo covers and cat gut makes good strings. No wonder the banjo sounds like a wounded cat in heat when being played. :p

I like cats just fine and they absolutely love me, but then they always gravitate to the people who are allergic to them.:grumpy: :p  ;)

I'm strictly a dog person but ifen y'all want cats that's fine with me.:D

Great news, Rusty--kittens always bring joy to a home. My wife and I have had our cat, Kitty, for over 13 years now. Wait, that's all wrong. What I meant to say is that my wife and I have had the pleasure of serving Kitty for the past 13 years  She showed up as a stray when we were still living in an apartment in Chico. She ended up having six kittens in an ice chest in our back yard. We got her fixed and gave away the kittens, and she just ended up staying, even though we lived in an apartment where cats weren't allowed :footinmou We named her "Kitty" because we weren't going to keep her and didn't want to get attached. Probably a little late to change it now...

I'd let a Mountain Lion win too...wouldn't want to pi$$ him off!

That's great to hear, Rusty:) I'm an animal person with myself. I get it from my mother. She'll feed anything that comes to her door. but GET THAT CAT FIXED! my mom made the mistake of feeding our neighbors' cat. Then an ol' tom cat stroled up and she fed him too. Well, 2 begat 8. 8 begat 16. 16 begat.... over thirty little inbred mutant cats running around my mom's place. But I am pleased to hear of the peace the kittens have brought to your home:)

As you may be able to guess I am a cat person. They do have a way of warming the heart. I had never considered owning a cat (much less two) untill I was ambushed by two little balls of grey fur at a crappy petstore. I am a believer in adopting strays and going to the pound but this petstore was worse then any pond I had be in and I could leave them behind. Now I can't imagine not having them.

Right now, with nursing her kittens all the time, she's less formal. Before the kittens came my wife's sister came by and horror of horrors, treated her highness ( Felicia the First ) like a PET rather than her rightful royalty. FTF was not amused. ;) ;) ;)

Great name, Rusty.

I had Max from the Humane Society in Chicago for 17 years. We still talk.

A friend had "Lotus Blossom, woman of mystery and intrique."

Cat had a serious attitude. :)

I know what you mean Rusty.Took in a 4 month old stray pup last month,my first pet since i was ten.The best thing I've done in years :D :D :D .
Yaj.

I love kitties. When my original kitties died that I had had since college (I was 40 then) we were heartbroken. Now we have 2 that are our second generation of cats. Even though Mr. Prissy jumps up and tries to drink out of the bathroom sink while I brush my teeth and Kitty Girl tries to open my eyes with her claws at 4am so I can let her out I still love them.

Nasty has some cool kitties. The one was kinda standoffish but the kind of calico one is a sweetie :)

since I have friend who have some really nice kitties. B4 that, I only knew folks with mean cats, so not much love lost there.

I'm a dog man, meself. We have had 3 rescues, on fromm the Humane Soc, one found as a pup wandering on a friend's farm, one a city rescue. The cuty rescue dog had some issues, but that may be from the scavenging mother's diet (she died only after 6 years with massive internal problems and infection). The country rescue (terrier mutt) was thrown on the property from a car, and was the suviving member of the litter. She is 13 now, an old maid, but still really healthy and playful. The Humane Soc rescue is a 48 pound Corgi/bull terrier mix, looks like a low slung pot-bellied pig or small bear.

I have six dogs, 3 border collies and 3 great pyrenees. 12 goats, 1 donkey, and about 30 chickens, 3 ducks and 8 guinea fowl. Never too quiet at home. ;)

If you don't like cats, skunks make good rodent controllers. Our old neighborhood had a regular comittee of them, and -- except for a couple of stupid dogs -- no spraying. They also go along well with cats, but not so well with racoons. One mom skunk lived under our front porch and used to bring her kids to our dog's outside food dish for a little snack once the sun went down. (We knew to keep Honey inside after dark. She was one of the aforementioned stupid dogs.)
