OT: literary question

Maybe one of the Grinch stories? Imagine the facial expressions you could do with that one. Either would come in handy later in life as you read your kids to sleep...you can teach them Spanish at the same time so they don't grow up like me, stuck in a German class with the big fat sweaty teacher.

John?

I went through some stuff and sort of timed it out (in English.) Five minutes is LONG for a play...even a soliloquy. Time would stand deadly still on the stage (not recommened), and even the definitive, memorable, or classic ones are much shorter.

You might investigate some oratory like a political speech...Lincoln's, or ML King's, or....Emil Zapata...someone of that ilk.

OR, you might look at some long poems or sonnets.

OR, write 800 words yourself on a theme you believe it....freedom, spirituality, frisbees....whatever.

Best wishes,

Kis

Yeah. Clinton would seem to be it. (MLK's stuff is too long.)

OKC was about the only time Clinton appeared presidential to me...

John

...or any sort of essay. Like "a modest proposal." Kismet's right. Shakespeare was too good to do something so ghastley as a 5 min rant.

How about instructions for anything. Like instructions for how to install hardwood flooring, how to change the oil in your car, or what not.

Bruise?

You can always stall for time with the pictures.

Duh. How you gonna show pictures in Spanish? :p

John, as a guy who used to teach executives how to prepare and perform public speaking, my opinion is that Bill Clinton was one of the BEST public speakers of the last 100 years; certainly the best presidential public speaker.

He could read a phone book and rivet his audience. I had tapes muted to illustrate his gesticulation, cadence, and facial expressions. Very small things, but he orchestrated them, or came to the technique naturally, to the point of brilliance.

Intonation and emphasis, the use of quiet spacing, he was great.

Best wishes
(And "This thing called love" was VERY funny)

You could do it on the complete, "Everything I Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten."
It's more than just the single page that everyone is familiar with.:)

Well, the options given were: read a Spanish book, and give a report in Spanish;
act out a movie scene or play with a classmate; or, watch a Spanish movie, and give a report in Spanish.

I asked the teacher if I could do the soliloquy, and she said, sure, but it'll be hard. I said, hard is my middle name. No, waitaminute- :footinmou

Anyway, I'm certain she'll be okay with a political speech, too.
