OT:Look what is happening to our vote

Tomorrow's headlines:

Electronic voting machines approved!

Day after tomorrow's headlines:

Bill Gates unanimously elected president in surprise upset!

Well, Semp, it's good to know we're not alone. The sequence of a Nation can be used for the individual too.

The Democratic Party has been harvesting votes for years at Tax Payer expense. But everyone likes to spend- The Republicans this last term have indulged themselves even beyond the expected overuns from 9-11 and the downturned economic cycle they inherited.

We would have hung Clinton had he spent as much as the Republicans are now. It's hard to see why the Democrats hate him so much- after all, he's given moolah to their programs.

Hypocrites! and Bastards!"--Sadly prophetic quote from Alan Jourgensen, from the band MINISTRY.

I read some Hunter S. Thompson sports column, and he said (edited for REALLY inflammatory content, I left his standard rant content alone:D--KS):

"They somehow managed to blow it all, like a gang of kids on a looting spree, between January and July, or even less. It is genuinely incredible. The U.S. Treasury is empty ... The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it. Our highway system is crumbling ... our children are poor, our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world, has been looted and neglected and destroyed by the same gang of ignorant greed-crazed bastards... Big Darkness, soon come. Take my word for it."

He's a trip.

In small social organizations such as tribe or local community, voting can be a way to impose the will of the majority, but in a mass society, Voting is like Praying. It's a ritual which serves to make the manipulated masses feel like they have control over their existence, while ensuring that those in control stay in control.

our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world

It has never been sustainable. It could not be, when the first recipients had put nothing in. It has always just been a matter of time.

Well I think we got more troubles than that,
We are dependant on other countries for our fuel and we use more than other country in the world. There is a limited supply. Our infrastuture is base on gasoline, and people use it like it was never going to run out, some say it will run out very fast as the third world is using much more . We can't farm, get to work, to the hospital or do a lot of things we take for granted. .

We don't even have a rail system as backup like the other developed nations.
When the gas prices get too high, Our economy goes in the crapper, bet on it.
Yet our elected "leaders" can't even approach the subject because of all of the corporate interest, and the public out cry, yeap people hate the cafe standard, gotta have more power because I need a thrill ( the heck with my kids future).

This is a good example of a problem with democracy, what if something unpopular is the only reasonable answer? Will the people figuare the problem out before it's too late? I guess most will discover the problem when the gauge hits "E" and they are stuck on the express way? When it does, welcome to the third world 'merica.

It takes many years to develop new infrastructere and nobodies even talking about it. It is going to get ugly in the latter half of the 21 century.....

What about the hybrid cars they're putting out now? I'm beginning to see more and more of them around!!!!:D
We already have manufactured oils such as Mobil 1 and there may be others I'm not aware of and I'm reasonably sure there are long term use lubricants of other types. It used to be that you got an oil change and lube job every 2,000 miles and now some cars are lubed for 100K!!!!
There are those who are working on alternative fuels such as hydrogen that are very promising.
We may run out of gas but that won't end our way of life. Actually it could make it better.:D

Hydrogen is not a good alternative. I worked
at a hydrogen gas processing plant building company.

1) Hydrogen is made comercially from natural gas. No other technology has been developed to this point to produce it in volume. You use more energy to make it than you get out.

2) Hydrogen eats metal, especially at elevate temperature, it is call hydrogen embrittlement. It goes though other substances even faster. You need a new hydrogen gas plant every so often( not long at all, I believe it was every 5 to 6 years and that was special extremely expensive materials that are the most resistant ie inconel), the metal gets weak( hydrogen alloys the metal to something else as it get in the matrix) and the darn things blow up. You not only need a new engine every so many miles but you would have to replace the gas tank ( a pressure vessel ) and all the lines as well. Very expensive prospect.

3) It's extremely volitile, oderless, tasteless and burns with an invisible flame. we got people blowing them selve up at gas stations with gasoline, this will be mulitplied many times over with hydrogen. Improper maintance will also cause
explosions.

I appreciate your positve attitude , but it's really a ugly topic, it is something to be concerned about.

The hybrids are a good developement, now if they legislated a law that most of our cars and truck met the same fuel economy that would delay the inevitable, and buy us some time to make the changes.....That's not going to happen, try selling this to a Nascar Dad.....

Yeah I remember Reagan beating up on Carter for the deficit. Deficit reduction was always a Republican issue. I guess once they got back both houses of congress they had to pay back the people that put them there just like the Dems did. Clinton got the deficit down in part because I think the divided gov't concept is better ;)

Speaking of schools and infrastructure, I have never been able to understand why the goal of having a well educated, healthy, and culturally rich populace is not patriotic. Self sacrafice for the good of all is a foreign concept anymore.

Speaking of energy, I can't see why that energy self sufficiency is not a national security issue. Biodiesel works, but is too expensive $2.50 a gallon.
But surely we could make it cost efficient. Would put our farmers back to work and save on war costs

It already is a national security issue, the gulf war was about gasoline,
Rowanda happen about the same time and not 1 American trooper went there, I think a million people were slaughtered there?

I agree about the money and the repubilicans, Funny how all the money is gone now isn't it.......Not saying a democratic leglislature and president wouldn't do the same thing....

oh yeah , smart people rule......

Clinton enjoyed the fruits of Ronald Reagan's and George Bush's labor and he himself did nothing except put us where we are today.
Now we're all enjoying the fruits of Clintonomics and are having to pay for it.:(
There's never been a president that could do anything with only four years in office except to get the ball rolling.
Kerry scares me to death because he, well his record speaks for itself.:(

This was taken from the Congressional voting record. Check it out for yourself.

John Kerry on Defense…

He voted to kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle

He voted to kill the M-1 Abrams Tank

He voted to kill every Aircraft carrier laid down from 1988

He voted to kill the Aegis anti aircraft system

He voted to Kill the F-15 strike eagle

He voted to Kill the Block 60 F-16

He voted to Kill the P-3 Orion upgrade

He voted to Kill the B-1

He voted to Kill the B-2

He voted to Kill the Patriot anti Missile system

He voted to Kill the FA-18 He voted to Kill the B-2

He voted to Kill the F117

In short, he voted to kill every military appropriation for the
development and deployment of every weapons systems since 1988 to
include the battle armor for our troops.

With Kerry as president our Army will be made up of naked men running
around with sticks and clubs.

He also voted to kill all anti terrorism activities of every agency of
the U.S. Government and to cut the funding of the FBI by 60%, to cut the
funding for the CIA by 80%, and cut the funding for the NSA by 80%.
But then he voted to increase OUR funding for U.N operations by
800%!!!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not too keen on Bush either.:( In fact AFAIC we haven't had a decent candidate for President since Harry Truman was in office.
Well maybe with the exception of Barry Goldwater, I think he would've made a good one and one that we needed right then too but it didn't happen.
But all in all I doubt politics is a good thing to discuss here. It should be taken to the Political Forum where it belongs. Like the Hydrogen/Gasoline subject it is just too volitale for here IMO.

My last word on the subject...:D

Yvsa,

There's slightly more (or less) too those claims than meets the eye. It's a little bit of spin from the RNC. Here's a link to a story that examines the cuts and the cuts Kerry opposed in detail:

http://slate.msn.com/id/2096127

As far as Clinton and the deficit: I think the deficit reduction began when Bush #1 closed a bunch of unneeded bases (ie cut military spending) and raised taxes. Clinton raised the gas tax bringing in more revenue, the economy picked up and more revenue came in, and Clinton cut several subsidies and signed welfare reform which reduced spending. Of course the republicans in congress helped in this. So while he doesn't deserve sole credit he does deserve some credit ;)
