Sarge,
While you deny volunteering you already have and will again if asked, its the nature of the beast.
The good part about the way the war is going is that the CSS attitude of "we're CSS, we don't fight or patrol" is being rudely shaken here. A few females are asking to go the range more (we're short of training ammo, any surprise?) but they are drawing their rifles and dry firing, going to the ISMT (simulator) and actively learning how to operate belt fed weapons even though they're not on a gun team.
More interest in practical hand to hand, more LINE vice MCMAP police/riot BS, tactics, patrolling, defensive positions, learning calls for fire, etc. across the board. Still got resistance from higher when I was going to take them on a short 15 miler.
Didnt get up North to work with the Engineers on their patrol package, an investigation has to get done is why Im here on a Saturday night. It was evidently a very worthwhile package. Most found out they didnt know as much as they thought and were not very good, though they attacked the package with a vengeance. The feedback from Iraq is a strong motivator.
Engineer Company is having a formation Monday morning and Ill pass out two to a couple of hard chargers. Both are the hard-nosed types.
I really dont know if well go as a whole unit or piecemeal detachments out. I prefer the whole unit as we can keep better track of our own and forget to read certain rules and regulations.
S/F, Mike
