OT: Meningitis

Tyrkon, I don't know much about meningitis. However, here's one piece of advice: don't diagnose/research online unless you *know* you have a condition. You wind up finding all the worst case scenarios and convincing yourself that it *could be* what you have. Best to seek competent medical advice. I'm glad things are looking better.

BINGO!! Stunningly good advice, Ham Solo. Please, please listen to it.

It's happened to members of my family. :(

You're certainly to be congratulated for helping your friend out in a time of serious trouble. Viral Meningitis can be found once it is suspected; any good doc can tell you if her problem has really returned.

As to continuing consequences, I'm afraid I just don't know. I hope a medical doc will come along soon with some solid advice.

... my wife got a category 4 staff infection (not MRSA, thank god) and since she's allergic to Penicillin, she had to take Vancomyacin intravenously.

She has my personal sympathy, from experience. And I'm not even allergic to penicillin, it just wasn't doing the job.

One problem with a major illness is the fear that anything thereafter could be a recurrence, or something else just as bad. Just like every headache is not a migraine, but once you've had a migraine, every other headache scares you a lot worse than it used to.

It sounds like you're dealing with this all right medically. Don't let the bad experience lead to overreaction to small problems, though.

This seems to hit the nail on the head perfectly. It appears that it was just a cold with its normal sinus headaches and sometimes body aches. But, because of her somewhat recent scare, she was really worried by the otherwise "normal" cold symptoms. She seems 100% now, has passed the cold on to me :p, and is even dragging me orienteering this weekend.
