Pretty neat. Commerically done, but pretty neat.
You had me time-travelling back to a guy...somebody's great uncle, or grandfather, retired tool and die guy or machinist, who hand-milled a miniature locomotive engine...steam variety.
The man lived in a grade-school buddy's in-law apartment in the basement of a bungelow on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950's This was pretty common in those days, the extended family was closer, and many of the folks were just a generation away from having immigrated to the United States. Many families had relatives living with them as a matter of course, not an emergency situation.
Because I was a kid, and because I looked at life with wonder, not a critical eye, it was PERFECT. He made it (as I recall) out of cobbled metal from work, and government time milling machines and drill presses, etc. The old guy knew kids would be tickled by the tiny perfection, and it pleased him. Nice memory.
Thank you.
